The Rings of Power introduces new elven and dwarven ringsmiths in season 2

As a die-hard fan of J.R.R. Tolkien’s “Lord of the Rings,” I couldn’t be more excited about Amazon’s “The Rings of Power” prequel series. The first season introduced us to the magical rings of power, three of which were created by the elves: Narya, Nenya, and Vilya. And while we know there are seven more rings for the dwarf-lords and nine for mortal men, I’m eagerly anticipating how these stories will unfold on screen.

As an avid fan of Amazon’s “Lord of the Rings” prequel series, “The Rings of Power,” I was thrilled to witness the elves’ craftsmanship in the first season. They produced three enchanted rings: Narya, Nenya, and Vilya. These rings hold significant importance to the unfolding tale. While Sauron (Charlie Vickers) provided some assistance, the elves primarily created these rings on their own, shielded from his corrupting influence.

As a gamer, I can tell you from my experience in Middle-earth that there are indeed more than three rings of power. The rhyme goes like this: “Three rings for the Elven-kings under the sky, Seven for the Dwarf-lords in halls of stone, Nine for mortal men doomed to die, One for the Dark Lord on his dark throne.” With so many rings to be crafted, we’ve got a lot on our hands!

In J.R.R. Tolkien’s “Lord of the Rings” legend, the malevolent character Sauron masks himself as a deity named Annatar and collaborates with different races in Middle-earth to manufacture rings of power, ultimately intending to dominate them through his One Ring. In “The Lord of the Rings” appendices, we uncover a significant dwarven artisan named Narvi, who constructed the Doors of Durin. On the program, he’ll play a pivotal role in creating the dwarven rings of power, as suggested by actor Kevin Eldon.

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Eldon shared, “He subtly influences the storyline throughout the entire series. Tolkien merely mentioned him in his appendices and labeled him as an accomplished artisan. With limited information, J.D. Payne and Patrick McKay managed to breathe life into this minor character. In addition to being a brilliant architect, we discover in season 2 that he acts as an advisor. He becomes a trusted confidant of King Durin.”

Narvi has an interesting journey in season 2, as the king increasingly falls under the power of the rings. These rings are getting under his skin; he’s becoming less logical and showing signs of madness. So Narvi has to make a very difficult choice about whether he obeys his natural instinct, which is to be loyal and to follow the king’s wishes or to abandon that very basic requirement of his life and instead show more loyalty to Khazad-dûm? He gets to a point where he has to leap one way or the other. I’m not going to tell you what he chooses, but it’s certainly a dilemma for him.

In the original tale, the allure of the One Ring left a lasting impression on fans as it gradually turned Frodo from a brave hobbit into a corrupted being. Meanwhile, King Durin (Peter Mullan) was heading down a troubled path towards the end of season 1, distancing himself from his son Prince Durin IV (Owain Arthur) due to their growing friendship with the elves. “The rings exert a significant influence on the king and, consequently, over the entire kingdom,” explained Arthur. “Although we witness the benefits of the rings, King Durin also experiences their detrimental effects.”

It seems that Prince Durin will reach the lowest point in his life as season 2 commences. According to Arthur, “He’s brought down to his knees.” All that he had known and cherished has been taken away from him. The only things that remain steady are his wife and children. Consequently, we can expect Durin to be on the defensive when season 2 unfolds. I don’t believe he can sink any lower than at the beginning of the second season.

Well, the show is leading up to a bloody war with Sauron, so we’ll see if it gets worse.

Amelia Kenworthy is Mirdania, an elven smith

While Sauron assumes the disguise of Annatar among the elves, it’s uncertain why he does so since their rings of power have already been created. One possibility is that he desires recognition after assuming a new identity; earlier in the first season, Sauron mingled with the elves under the guise of a mortal man named Halbrand.

An elven blacksmith named Mirdania, portrayed by Amelia Kenworthy, is another character he could encounter. I suppose Mirdania is a new creation for the production, but her mentor Celebrimbor (Charles Edwards), who is renowned as the most skilled elven artisan in Tolkien’s tales, is a significant figure.

In simple terms, when “The Rings of Power” season 2 debuts on Amazon Prime Video on August 29, we’ll witness a mix-up among all of them.
