The Rig season 2 star teases “awful conflict” ahead for the crew

As a seasoned gamer and avid fan of gripping dramas, I can confidently say that I am beyond excited for the upcoming second season of “The Rig.” With Iain Glen teasing a new wave of “awful conflict” in this supernatural drama, my anticipation is at an all-time high.

Having grown up on a steady diet of survival horror games and disaster movies, I can relate to the characters’ struggle for survival amidst strange phenomena and treacherous environments. The fact that they can’t simply return to their normal lives after escaping the oil rig adds an extra layer of tension that keeps me hooked.

In the interview with Radio Times, Glen’s description of the one-sided offer made by Pictor struck a chord with me – the choice between money and loved ones is a classic dilemma that I’ve faced many times in my gaming adventures. And just like Magnus, Emily Hampshire, and Martin Compston’s characters, I too have learned to never fully trust those in power.

The idea of being sent into an “alien” environment on an investigation/rescue mission/corporate cover-up sounds like a dramatic scenario that doesn’t come around often, but I’m looking forward to seeing how it unfolds. David Macpherson has always been great at exploring the human condition and bringing consequences to life in his writing, so I have no doubt that this season will be just as intense and thought-provoking as the first.

I must admit, though, that I’m a bit worried about the fact that “The Rig” won’t launch on Prime Video until January 2, 2025. But hey, at least it gives me plenty of time to replay my favorite survival games and brush up on my disaster movie knowledge before diving back into the world of Kinloch Bravo!

Oh, and as a side note: I can’t help but wonder if Pictor’s offer will be as tempting as that cake in “Portal 2” that always seemed too good to be true… and it always was. Guess we’ll find out soon enough!

In the second season of “The Rig,” starring Iain Glen, hints were dropped suggesting that our main characters will encounter a very challenging predicament or struggle in the series’ ongoing supernatural narrative.

In the series “Game of Thrones” and “Delicious,” the actor portrays one of the survivors from the oil rig Kinloch Bravo, which encountered peculiar events leading up to a devastating tsunami. Despite making it out alive, the main characters find themselves unable to resume their previous ordinary lives.

During an interview with Radio Times, Glen elaborated that his character Magnus, alongside Emily Hampshire’s character Rose and Martin Compston’s character Fulmer, find themselves in a difficult situation due to the shady dealings of the energy company Pictor.

Glen presented a choice: either sign this agreement for a significant amount of money to search for lost loved ones, or remain where you are and forgo that opportunity.

Although all surviving team members agree on their adversary now, Pictor retains control and plans to dispatch them into a strange, potentially hazardous setting for an exploration/rescue operation/corporate undercover task. This tense situation, believes Glen, is not commonly portrayed in dramas.

David Macpherson writes exceptionally well, capturing the essence of people’s painful conflicts… He excels at ensuring that his work accurately reflects the real-world consequences, the actor noted.

In some action-packed disaster flicks, it can feel like the main characters are invincible – they manage to escape unscathed while the rest of us, the extras who didn’t make it, are easily forgotten as the story continues.

The Rig season 2 will launch on Prime Video on January 2, 2025.
