The Residence stars shocked at show finale
The Residence spoilers follow.
Actors from “The Residence” have shown their surprise with the series’ ending, where the identity of the culprit was unmasked in the finale.
In a more casual and straightforward rewording: The Netflix show created by Shonda Rhimes, classified as a mystery-drama, centered around the investigations led by peculiar detective Cordelia Cupp (Uzu Aduba) regarding the murder of the White House’s top staff member, played by Giancarlo Esposito.

HUGE spoilers follow – consider this your final warning!
Over the course of eight gripping episodes, I found myself questioning multiple characters as potential culprits. However, it wasn’t until the climactic reveal that I realized our beloved President’s Social Secretary, none other than Lilly Schumacher (brilliantly portrayed by Molly Griggs), was actually behind the heinous crime. What a twist!
While many fans expressed their surprise at the revelation, Aduba and fellow actor Randall Park (who portrayed FBI Special Agent Edwin Park) also admitted that they were equally unaware of the culprit’s true identity.
Park expressed surprise (Deadline reports), with Aduba echoing this sentiment: “Indeed, I was taken aback. It wasn’t what I expected.” Similarly, Susan Kelechi Wilson and Ken Marino, who portrayed an Assistant Usher and the President Chief’s advisor, were also caught off guard, admitting they hadn’t anticipated a plot that involved their characters themselves.
Watson expressed a sort of desire to take on the role of the villain. He seemed confident he’d pull it off, reveling in the idea. However, Marino had a different expectation; he thought Watson would be someone else. Yet, when the identity was revealed, Marino was pleasantly caught off guard.
Watson mused, “I had a feeling there was some sort of collaboration happening, I truly did. They kept exchanging secretive glances, and I couldn’t help but think something was amiss. How intriguing would that have been? But apparently, they don’t get along well,” expressing the idea of a possible alliance, with Marino agreeing, stating it “would have been fascinating”.
Although multiple characters on the show didn’t manage to figure out the murderer’s identity, the show’s creator, Paul William Davies, provided an explanation for this creative choice. He commented, “Lilly is a bold character… Molly struck that balance perfectly, and it was all very fulfilling for me.
I believe the ending turned out splendidly, and I hope it caught many off guard. Additionally, there may be aspects that certain individuals grasped due to careful consideration or an innate sense, although these weren’t immediately apparent or overly straightforward.
The Residence streams on Netflix.
