The reason Nine newsreader was forced to halt her news bulletin about a devastating Gold Coast car crash

As a seasoned lifestyle expert with years of experience under my belt, I must say that Jayne Azzopardi’s emotional moment during her news bulletin is a testament to the humanity and compassion that exists within our journalists. The raw emotion she displayed while reporting on a heart-wrenching story was not only relatable but also commendable.

A Channel Nine newsreader was forced to stop midway through her bulletin on Friday morning.

Today, presenter Jayne Azzopardi was reporting on a tragic car accident along the Gold Coast in Queensland, but her voice momentarily wavered.

The 44-year-old veteran presenter appeared to choke up at one point just she began the story.

After a short spell of coughing, Azzopardi appeared to recover and continued.

She later explained that the interruption was down to a croaky throat.

‘Excuse me,’ Azzopardi said apologising to viewers.

She then continued: ‘I’m not sure what’s happening to my voice this morning.’

The newswoman who filled in for Brooke Boney last month on Nine’s morning program paused briefly to take a drink of water, presumably to soothe her throat.

In a fortunate turn of events, Azzopardi stated that the individual, aged 37, who was part of the car accident on the Gold Coast, managed to escape harm after colliding with a fence and flipping over his pickup truck.

After stunning the Today show audience in March, Brooke Boney revealed her decision to step down during a live broadcast.

As a devoted devotee speaking here, I’m eagerly sharing that come July and August, following the Olympics, I’ve made the decision to move on from my role as a news and entertainment reporter to seize an enticing professional chance that lies ahead.

Last month, it was announced that Azzopardi, currently co-hosting Weekend Today alongside Clint Stanaway, will take over from the well-liked journalist in their position.

Azzopardi began his career with Channel Nine in 2009, working as a political reporter based in Canberra. In 2011, he moved to their Sydney office.

She has also previously been a newsreader for Weekend Today and was named as host in April 2023.

Additionally, Australian entertainment reporter Renee Bargh will appear more frequently on Today, teaming up often with longtime host Richard Wilkins.

On weekends, Bargh served as a co-host for Today Extra, and during the year 2020, he teamed up with Darren McMullen to co-host The Voice Australia.

Boney wept as she shared the news in March, revealing her intention to depart from Today and pursue a Master’s degree in Public Policy at esteemed Oxford University overseas.

As someone who has spent many years striving for academic excellence and personal growth, I can understand the excitement and anticipation that Boney must be feeling right now. Being offered a place at Oxford University is undoubtedly a significant achievement, one that opens up countless opportunities for further learning and professional advancement.

As a diehard devotee, I’ve been holding onto something significant, and today seemed like the perfect moment to let it out. There’s no need for elaborate explanations or emotional farewells at this juncture, but I felt compelled to break the news to you all: [good/bad news] has just come my way.

She admitted the decision to leave her role on the program was ‘really difficult’.

As a passionate advocate for personal growth, I’ve long harbored a desire to immerse myself in the academic environment of a foreign university. The timing seemed perfectly aligned, making now the opportune moment to embark on this exciting journey.

I appreciate being here daily, and I hold each of you dear. This has made my decision quite challenging. However, it simply implies that you’ll need to arrange visits to the UK to see me instead.

Back in 2019, I had the privilege of stepping into the vibrant world of entertainment reporting for The Today Show, taking over from the esteemed Richard Wilkins who transitioned to Today Extra. It’s been an exciting journey ever since!

In the previous year, Boney assumed the role of a newscaster, succeeding Alex Cullen who decided to concentrate exclusively on sports.
