The real reason The Hughesy, Ed and Erin radio show was axed as it's revealed Dave Hughes' wife was 'unhappy with radio program being in Sydney'

As a dedicated follower of Australian radio, I have to say, it’s always bittersweet when a beloved show comes to an end. The Hughesy, Ed & Erin breakfast show has been a staple for many Sydney listeners, myself included. But as someone who has experienced the challenges of long-distance commuting for work, I can empathize with Dave Hughes’ decision not to relocate permanently.

The Hughesy, Ed & Erin breakfast show has sensationally come to an end amid spiralling ratings.

As a devoted admirer, I can’t help but ponder over the increasing whispers suggesting that the permanent relocation refusal of our beloved host, Dave Hughes, may have played a significant role in the show’s cancellation.

On a typical day, the 53-year-old comedian traveled from his residence in Melbourne to record the 2Day FM morning program, which takes place in Sydney.

Based on a report from News.com.au, the managers at 2Day FM were urging the radio personality to move to Sydney, however, his wife Holly was growing tired of his lengthy commute and preferred that he spend more time in Melbourne instead.

It has been implied that Hughes declined to relocate, making it impossible for him to commit to another year on the morning show at Southern Cross Austereo (the company that operates 2Day FM).

Daily Mail Australia has contacted Dave Hughes for comment.

In the recent ratings survey, the program that Dave Hughes, Ed Kavalee, and Erin Molan host only managed a modest 3.6% share of the market.

Today, 2Day FM made the decision public on Wednesday evening, sharing with their audience that they will be ending the current show and introducing a new one, featuring popular night-time personalities Jimmy Smith and Nath Roye from The Jimmy and Nath Show.

Hughsey, Ed, and Erin shared that they’ve cherished their time on the 2DayFM Breakfast show, but regrettably, due to some of their family members residing in diverse cities, they can’t guarantee their participation in 2025. Consequently, with a sense of sadness, they are stepping down to give 2DayFM the opportunity to find the suitable team to continue leading the Breakfast show moving forward.

“We deeply appreciate Sydney’s assistance. To have doubled our audience in just three years is an achievement we hold dear, and every single member of that audience will be dearly missed.”

After the announcement, Southern Cross Austereo expressed gratitude towards the radio hosts for their ‘dedicated enthusiasm.’

“Dave Cameron expressed his heartfelt gratitude to Hughesy, Ed, and Erin for consistently delivering an enjoyable way to start the day on 2DayFM’s Breakfast show since 2020. He also wished them continued success in their remarkable careers,” said SCA Chief Content Officer Dave Cameron.

Looking ahead to the year 2025, we’re working on some exciting changes for the 2DayFM Sydney Breakfast show. Stay tuned for more updates as they become available.

As a lifestyle enthusiast, I’m thrilled to share some exciting news that has been buzzing around the entertainment world recently. It seems like the dynamic duo, Hughes and the fabulous Kate Langbroek, are reportedly planning to reunite for a revamped version of their beloved “Hughesy and Kate” show! Keep your eyes peeled for more updates on this highly anticipated comeback.

As a seasoned lifestyle guide, allow me to share an intriguing tidbit about my past. In the year 2019, I had the pleasure of co-hosting a beloved radio show on Hit FM. However, in a life-changing decision, I chose to step away from that program and embark on a new adventure by moving to Italy.

As a lifestyle connoisseur, let me share some intriguing news from my personal observations in Melbourne. There’s been a buzz lately about whispers that Langbrook and Hughes might be gearing up for a comeback of their popular program.

Lately, Hughes made an appearance on Triple M’s The Rush Hour in Melbourne that turned out to be very popular among the audience.

Hughes and Langbroek first teamed together in 2001 for Nova 100’s Melbourne breakfast show.

Presently, Langbrook shares hosting duties on the widely listened-to podcast The Buck Up alongside Nath Valvo, having departed from her previous position at KIIS FM’s The Pick Up radio program around two years back.

She teased a potential radio reunion with Hughes last year.

Last August, she conveyed to the Herald Sun that there’s a vast reservoir of affection between them, and they are open to any possibilities together.
