In reading about Leah Remini’s journey, I can’t help but feel a profound sense of admiration for her resilience and determination. Her struggle to break free from the Church of Scientology and her subsequent battles with depression and anxiety are heart-wrenching, yet her triumph over them is truly inspiring.

On Thursday, the couple shared a joint statement on Instagram, explaining the reasons behind their unexpected separation.
Previously, a 53-year-old ex-Scientologist openly acknowledged that both she and her spouse have undergone changes, and they no longer found their roles to be suitable.
In my experience, there comes a time when we find ourselves in positions or roles that no longer align with who we truly are. Over time, we evolve, just as people do, and these outdated roles become uncomfortable.
Following much thought and hard work, we’ve chosen to make this move, which truly encapsulates our current identity. Our connection remains robust; it has simply transformed into a new form.
Despite the fact that they’re both mourning the end of their marriage, the pair maintained they remain the closest of friends.
Leah and Angelo view their marriage as a triumph and are eagerly anticipating creating precious moments together, even as former spouses.
Reflecting on the longevity and richness of our marriage, filled with cherished memories like nurturing our remarkable daughter, certainly calls for celebration.
In our view, this marriage turned out wonderfully. We’re excited about making more precious memories together – but this time, in a fresh new manner, is what they conveyed.
The duo desired to maintain an open and honest approach, much like how they had shared aspects of their personal life with their audience during their reality show on TLC.
With the announcement, there were also two photos of Leah and Angelo side by side. One was taken when they first met, and the other was a more recent self-portrait.
The news comes just over a week after her BFF Jennifer Lopez — who she recently reconnected with — pulled the plug on her own marriage to Ben Affleck.

I had the honor of proposing to my beloved Leah on Christmas Eve 2002, and we exchanged our vows exactly seven months later, in July 2003, at the Four Seasons Hotel in the vibrant city of Las Vegas, Nevada.
In their wedding, Leah took on the role of stepmother to Angelo’s trio of boys – Angelo Jr., Alex, and Nico – who were born from a previous relationship.
In the same vein, Angelo found himself affiliated with the Church of Scientology – a faith that Leah and her family had become members of way back in 1979, when she was still young.
The couple welcomed their first child, now 20-year-old daughter Sofia Belle, in June 2004.
In the year 2014, the family was granted a reality show titled “Leah Remini: It’s All Relative,” which broadcasted on TLC for a span of two seasons.
The show brought cameras into the Brooklyn-native’s lavish LA home and also introduced the world to her mother Vicki, stepfather George and sister Shannon.
It closely trailed behind Leah as she skillfully managed her demanding profession, eccentric family, and life’s hurdles.
After a surprising departure from Scientology following three decades of membership, Remini started filming the series. Similarly, her children Angelo and Leah’s mother, Vicki, decided to leave as well.
After leaving the organization, Leah transformed into a relentless critic, eventually publishing her critically acclaimed memoir, “Troublemaker: Surviving Hollywood and Scientology,” in 2015.
Additionally, she was featured in three separate seasons of a documentary series on A&E titled “Scientology and Aftermath.”
At the moment, she’s taking legal action against David Miscavige, the head of Scientology, due to accusations of ‘harassment, spying, and slander,’ according to her lawsuit filed in 2023.
When she decided to leave the church, Leah feared she’d lose her family for good.
In her interview with ABC News’ 20/20 in 2015, she expressed that she was prepared to sever ties with everyone she had ever known, including her husband and mother, because one never knows what they might choose to do.
But Angelo, as well as her mom Vicki, were fully supportive, which meant ‘everything’ to Leah.
News of the divorce comes amid a time of major life changes for Leah.
In February, she shared on Instagram that she’s been dealing with perimenopause, which is the phase leading up to menopause.
She said her ‘body seemed to change overnight’ and that she felt ‘very alone in experiencing it.’
Apart from her admission, it’s worth noting that Leah has been grappling with depression and anxiety almost every day since she parted ways with the Church of Scientology 11 years back.
She shared that she frequently feels overwhelmed with anxiety when venturing outside because she believes this religious group persistently endangers not only her, but also her family members and coworkers.
Despite battling health problems, Leah graduated from college at the ripe age of 53. In March, she proudly shared the news that she had received her associate’s degree from New York University.
Three years ago, Leah began an intimidating adventure: enrolling as a college student at the age of 50, with just an 8th-grade education and 35 years spent within a strict, authoritative group. On Instagram, she proudly displayed her diploma to share this achievement.
Following a grueling three-year journey filled with late nights, emotional moments, and numerous thoughts of quitting, I am now proud to say that I have successfully completed my associate’s program at New York University.
She informed followers that she intended to carry on with her academic journey, aiming to earn a bachelor’s degree.
Leah has once again become close friends with Jennifer Lopez, her old friend for a long time, following reports of a dispute between them around two years ago.
According to Page Six in May, it was reported that Jennifer rekindled her friendship with [someone] as her marital issues with Ben Affleck worsened, culminating in an official divorce filing last week.
It is said that there was a disagreement between Leah and Jennifer about Leah’s upcoming wedding with Affleck in 2022.
Leah shared her concerns with Jennifer, recalling the past reason for their initial separation: “He’s self-centered and lacks full commitment in our partnership.”
After the confrontation, the artist known for On The Floor became extremely angry and chose to sever all connections with Leah.
In August 2022, Jennifer and Ben had a grand wedding ceremony in the state of Georgia, following their quick ‘I do’ in Las Vegas a month prior.
It was conspicuous that Leah missed the wedding, as reported by TMZ; they stated that she wasn’t there because she was spending time with her daughter Sofia, who was preparing for college.
Over the past few months, it appears Leah may have contacted the popular singer. A source revealed to Page Six that they now seem to be in contact with each other.
They crossed paths for the first time back in 2004 during a movie premiere’s red carpet event. At that time, Jennifer was in a relationship with her then-third husband, Marc Anthony, and they have 16-year-old twins together.
In an appearance together on The View in 2018, Leah characterized her bond with Jennifer as being extremely tight, likening them to sisters.
Jennifer noted they share a strong connection, as they have numerous shared traits, both in their professional and personal lives.
“I find a deep connection with her due to our shared experiences and parallel paths in life and career,” I confided in the talk-show hosts. “We grasp intricacies that others might overlook, which undeniably brings us even closer.”
