The Real Housewives of London faces casting crisis: producers struggle to assemble glamorous cast for long-awaited UK debut

It is one of the biggest shows on American television.

However, it appears that the Real Housewives series based in London has been unsuccessful in securing any high-profile cast members for its eagerly awaited reality program.

It seems that, even after extended attempts at casting, insiders claim the producers haven’t been successful in attracting well-known actors to their projects yet.

In October 2024, streaming service Hayu declared the introduction of a new series, designed to mirror the achievements of its American equivalents, like The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills and The Real Housewives of Atlanta.

Producers planned to feature glamorous businesswomen rather than traditional celebrities or WAGs.

Despite our attempts to recruit participants, the unwillingness of people has raised questions about the feasibility of this project, as we’ve struggled to locate influential homemakers in London.

According to the information provided, the source stated that they’re seeking entrepreneurial women instead of famous personalities, avoiding the path associated with wives of athletes (WAG) or celebrities. Apparently, this strategy isn’t successful because people aren’t interested in participating.

Initially, they inquired about casting her role in August. However, as we are currently in January, no casting has taken place yet. Their recurring message reads, “Do you have any suggestions?”

Or more colloquially:
They asked her way back in August if she could join the project. But here we are in January, and they haven’t cast anyone yet. They keep asking, “Got anyone good for us?

The series is being promoted as an upscale extension of the brand, scheduled for filming in early 2025, followed by its release towards the end of the same year.

The first American series drew its influence from the massive success of soap operas like Desperate Housewives and Peyton Place.

Olga Puzanova, as SVP of Marketing at Hayu, expressed her excitement during the October announcement: ‘For quite some time, our fans have been eager for London to be part of the famous Real Housewives franchise, and we’re absolutely delighted to confirm that the wait is now ended!’

We’re thrilled to deliver on your requests by bringing some of London’s most vibrant and spirited figures to stir things up, so prepare yourself!

‘All the excitement, style, and moments you’ll never forget are heading only to Hulu, and we can hardly contain our enthusiasm until you join us!’

Despite this excitement, casting struggles persist.

Notable personalities like Holly Valance, style mogul Trinny Woodall, and Chelsea Lazkani from “Selling Sunset” are said to be unable to participate because of prior engagements. Socialite Fran Cutler has given indications that she might take part in something related.

However, the challenges remain unresolved.

The show has been having a hard time, leading them to fly Andy Cohen, the creator and executive producer of the franchise, to London in November.)

If we can’t manage to get well-known celebrities on board, the premiere of this show might not take off as planned, even though it promises to offer the excitement, luxury, and scandals synonymous with the Real Housewives franchise.

As the filming date draws near, there’s growing anticipation among producers to find a talented cast that can ensure the London version turns out to be a triumph.

TopMob has contacted Universal for comment.
