As a lifestyle expert, I always say the Golden Globes kicks off awards season in Hollywood, and honestly, it’s so exciting for fashion lovers like me! It’s the first big chance to see all the latest runway trends actually worn by celebrities on the red carpet – it’s where fashion fantasy meets reality.
Many major fashion brands appointed new designers this year, giving us a clear look at the future of high fashion and where creative ideas are taking the industry.
The outfits we saw at last night’s awards show weren’t just thrown together – they were the result of weeks of planning by the stars’ stylists. Every detail was carefully considered and adjusted to guarantee the looks would get attention, even if the celebrity didn’t win an award!
This raises a key question: Given their access to skilled teams and the best fashion resources, why did so many of these women make such obvious mistakes?
The gala was overflowing with sparkly sequins, flowing taffeta, large bows, feathers, and dramatic stoles. It ended up looking less like a sophisticated black-tie event and more like a costume party, despite the intention of glamorous dressing.
These fashion mishaps have raised doubts about both the stars’ taste and the designers they’re working with. Despite being praised as the future of fashion, these designers aren’t delivering the sophisticated style people expect from these brands.
Jessie Buckley, the British actress known for her role in ‘Hamnet,’ was the most talked-about person at the event. While she won awards, her fashion choices also drew a lot of attention.
To celebrate Dior’s new creative director, Jonathan Anderson, actress Buckley wore a specially made, light-blue dress. The gown was designed to honor the brand’s classic style with a modern twist, a theme Dior is calling ‘Heritage Revisited’.

The outfit, intended to be a striking display of expert tailoring and sophisticated design, unfortunately didn’t quite succeed. It failed to flatter Buckley’s figure and didn’t live up to Dior’s reputation for timeless style.
Despite a striking outfit featuring a high slit and a full, gathered back, Buckley (or Anderson) didn’t quite shine as much as expected that night.
I’m completely captivated by Anderson – everyone’s saying he’s the next big thing in European fashion, and I totally agree! It’s been amazing to see him dress some of my favorite stars on the red carpet, and honestly, everything he’s done so far has been incredible. The buzz is absolutely deserved!
I get why some people are really excited about Buckley’s latest designs – they see it as totally cutting-edge and the start of something new in fashion. It’s the same with Anderson’s work, like that dress he made for Priyanka Chopra. Even though it was a bit of an unusual fit – the top didn’t quite match the skirt, which was this cool matte bubble shape, and it had a bow on the side – people are still praising it as innovative and stylish.
I don’t believe this collection represents Dior at its finest, and it doesn’t speak well for the sophisticated style the brand is famous for – especially considering Dior’s long-standing reputation as a fashion icon.
It seems that consistently surprising people has become a standard practice, especially for celebrities. They now see events like last night’s as a chance to get just as much attention for themselves as they do for their movies, and a strategy of bold, attention-grabbing choices has become common.
Jennifer Lawrence felt confident and glamorous last night, making a striking appearance on the red carpet in a delicate, floral Givenchy gown. The dress was designed by Sarah Burton, who recently took over as the brand’s designer after working at Alexander McQueen.
The dress showcased pink and green floral embroidery over a sheer nude fabric. This bold look was quite different from the subtle, sophisticated designs she became known for while working at McQueen, creating custom pieces for her most famous client, Princess Kate.

The dress, a sleek design from Jean Louis Scherrer’s 2003 collection, like Jennifer Lopez’s dramatic gown, seemed intended to complement Lawrence’s figure rather than overshadow it – her body was the real focus.
Lopez’s dress, a tight-fitting, nearly nude gown with lace and stones that ended in a full, tulle skirt, wasn’t her best look. It felt like a step back after she recently wore a stylish and confident Ralph Lauren outfit that was much more exciting and modern.
As a longtime follower of fashion, I have to say Jenna Ortega’s recent look didn’t quite hit the mark, joining Jennifer Lawrence and Sofia Vergara in moments that left us all a little speechless. It felt like the dress was more about what it didn’t cover than what it did, and honestly, it just didn’t work for me.
Jenna Ortega’s outfit, designed by Lanvin for their upcoming spring collection, had a dark, gothic style. It included a satin turtleneck, fringed shoulder pads, and dramatic cutouts. While the outfit showed off her figure, the overall look was considered a misstep, suggesting poor taste – either hers or her stylist’s.
Despite many fashion missteps and questionable trends, some women and their designers still successfully captured the essence of classic Hollywood glamour.
Oh my gosh, Keri Russell just floated onto the red carpet in this incredible black satin Armani gown – it wasn’t flashy, but it was just…perfectly chic. And Robin Wright Penn? She’s always stunning, but tonight she was the embodiment of classic Ralph Lauren elegance. Seriously, that dress just defined his red carpet style. I’m obsessed with both of them!

Emma Stone expertly balanced showing some skin with maintaining a stylish look, pairing a buttercup yellow Louis Vuitton crop top with a beaded skirt.
Amal Clooney, wife of famous actor George Clooney, showed everyone what classic glamour looks like.
Wearing a stunning red Balmain gown with a fitted top and flowing skirt, and sparkling Cartier diamond earrings, she looked like a classic Hollywood star.
Okay, seriously, after last night, can everyone just listen to Amal when it comes to red carpet style? Forget the teams of stylists – she just gets it! She completely showed everyone how it’s done, and honestly, they should all be taking notes. It was a masterclass, I’m telling you!
