The Project's Kate Langbroek breaks her silence on THAT Logies joke after it fell flat in awkward moment

As a seasoned comedy enthusiast with years of laughter under my belt, I must say that Kate Langbroek‘s joke at the 2024 TV Week Logie Awards was a classic case of “it’s funny because it’s true.” I’ve been there, dear reader; we’ve all been there. You prepare a witty remark, one that you believe will have the audience rolling in their seats, only to be met with an awkward silence or, worse yet, a room full of puzzled faces. It’s part of the job, and Kate seems to understand this well.

At last, Kate Langbroek speaks out about the joke she made during the 2024 TV Week Logie Awards that failed to resonate with the audience.

59-year-old headliner of the project, accompanied by her friend Dave Lawson, appeared onstage during the weekend event to hand out an award. However, her performance as a host fell short of expectations.

On stage, she told a humorous remark that didn’t seem funny to the star-studded crowd, leaving them puzzled, leading her to explain and justify the peculiar joke now.

Stepping onto the stage, I greeted everyone and specifically mentioned Dave Lawson, saying: “Hi everyone, including Dave Lawson, I never thought you’d be on board with this because I didn’t believe you’d appreciate strong women.”

Nevertheless, the humor fell flat, causing only a few chuckles among the audience, while some murmured in dissatisfaction, suggesting they did not find it amusing.

In a somewhat uncomfortable manner, Dave, aged 45, seemed perplexed by your remark. He then filled the silence with his words, “Friend, I’m genuinely content here with Kate… Thank you for saying that.”

On The Buck Up podcast, I recently shared a jest that didn’t quite hit the mark during its initial telling. However, in my defense, and with conviction, I maintain that it was a solid joke, albeit one that may have fallen flat on the occasion.

In my own words, she explained that her comment about strong women was connected to the fact that Dave is wedded to Sarah Snook, whose character, Shiv Roy from the popular series Succession, is renowned for her unyielding spirit.

She clarified that since everyone in the room seemed to be from the entertainment industry, she thought they’d all know about show business and his wife.

The humor in the joke stemmed from the fact that he is indeed Shiv Roy’s spouse. However, the joke can be considered well-crafted, but unfortunately, only a small number of people found it amusing, roughly around three individuals.

Sarah, who gained popularity alongside Dave during their time at Triple R radio, later addressed the awkward hush that ensued that evening, confessing she could pick up on the audience’s perplexity.

She explained her joke by saying, “What I understood, I actually overheard in the room as ‘huh?’, and I realized then that they might not be aware of what I believed they already knew.”

In a recent episode, co-host Nath Valvo confessed that he didn’t understand the humor right away, but asserted that he would have elicited laughter from her during the broadcast itself.

In a relaxed manner, the duo found humor in the well-known event, as it seemed that Kate recognized the comical aspect of her unintentional blunder during the hosting role.

Elsewhere, Kate is gearing up to put her charming Melbourne cottage under the hammer next month.

As someone who has lived and worked in bustling city centers for most of my life, I have always yearned for a quieter, more suburban lifestyle while still being within reasonable commuting distance to the city. That’s why this vintage five-bedroom, two-bathroom home located in St. Kilda, 7kms from the CBD, has caught my eye. With a price guide of $2.5million to $2.7million, it seems like a dream come true. I can envision myself waking up each morning to the serene surroundings of St. Kilda and commuting to work in the city with ease. The home’s vintage charm would make it feel like a sanctuary from the hustle and bustle of city life, while still offering all the modern conveniences I need for my family and me. This property seems like the perfect blend of suburban tranquility and urban convenience, making it a must-see for anyone seeking a similar lifestyle.

The comedian has lived in the property with her four children and husband Peter Lewis for 16 years.

They are now getting set to move into a larger home only streets away, according to the Herald Sun.

Built in the 1850s, the property is a gorgeous blend of Old World charm and modern chic design.

Ever since they moved in, Kate and her partner have carried out significant renovations on the place, such as building an extension.

The building, often referred to as Fenagh Cottage, preserves its traditional exterior and offers a cozy “family lounge” area sunken into the floor, complete with a gas-powered fireplace, which leads to an outdoor entertainment space.

The generous and contemporary kitchen showcases a breakfast counter, along with an array of pendant globe lights, providing a hint of 1970s vintage flair.

Notable features also include a generously sized master suite complete with an attached bathroom, walk-in closet, and a beautifully landscaped garden, plus a built-in trampoline.
