The Project’s Georgie Tunny issues heartbreaking statement after shock cancellation – as fellow celebs rush to her support
As a devoted fan and follower, I’ve chosen to honor my beloved television family on social media, paying tribute to them following the sad news of our show’s termination.
On Tuesday, she posted a picture with her fellow hosts Waleed Aly, Sarah Harris, and Sam Taunton, and at 34, the journalist penned a caption filled with sadness.
She started off by saying, “Parting ways can be tough, but with this group and this project, this farewell will resonate uniquely.
‘I dreamed of working on a show like The Project when I was growing up.
That vision turned into a tangible outcome, yet it was always more than just a spectacle; it was a bond between us. Right from the beginning. Oh, what an adventure! X.

The post drew numerous notable figures expressing their good wishes, among them was Sam Taunton, his project collaborator, who sent a message saying, “You’re shining brightly, Tunny! You’re on your way to becoming the nation’s new icon.
Abbie Chatfield also responded, messaging, ‘You’re so fab!
‘You were amazing on the Project and will be incredible in whatever you do next.’
‘Nothing but love,’ wrote Rover McManus, producer of The Project posted on Georgie’s story.
It comes after The Project was officially axed this week and will air its final episode on June 27.
On a Monday post to Facebook, Network 10 gratefully acknowledged viewer support and then unveiled the new series set to replace the current one.
As a devoted admirer, I’d like to share some changes happening within our cherished network: esteemed hosts Waleed Aly, Sarah Harris, and Hamish Macdonald are rumored to be departing, while the hilarious Sam Taunton will carry on gracing other Ten shows with his guest appearances.
In a recent disclosure, one of the ex-stars from the show, Peter Helliar, spoke about the deep emotional impact that their unexpected dismissal left not only on him but also on his fellow cast members.

On Tuesday’s episode of Jase and Lauren on Nova, the longtime host, who shared duties on the talk show from 2014 to 2022, openly expressed his deep sadness about the show’s termination.
I’m truly heartbroken. The influence and endurance of that series for sixteen years is nothing short of extraordinary. Few shows manage to make it past the first season, but this one was a testament to resilience, much like the little engine that could.
Initially, it faced cancellation nearly every two weeks during its debut year. Yet, sixteen years on, it’s remarkable to witness that the participants have risen to fame and household recognition, having been part of that very show!
In 2022, when Helliar, along with Carrie Bickmore, Tommy Little, and Lisa Wilkinson decided to depart, he expressed his belief that the cancellation would create a significant void in the landscape of Australian television.
He expressed that it may not be apparent to spectators what they are losing currently. Many comedians, musicians, and filmmakers have told him throughout the years, “The Project played a significant role in us selling tickets.” Unfortunately, that impact is no longer present.
He mentioned that a number of his past coworkers from the Project team shared with him that they had an extremely challenging day following the announcement.
Since Bickmore vacated her hosting position at the end of 2022, the ratings for this news program have been plummeting. To date, it has aired approximately 4,500 episodes and will conclude in just three more weeks.
Previously, it was unveiled by Daily Mail Australia that the show The Project was facing a review and was expected to be canceled on March 16.
Initially broadcast in July 2009, the show garnered over a million viewers in metropolitan areas at its peak popularity. Its main attraction was a rotating star-studded panel featuring celebrities such as Aly, Harris, Tunny, Hamish Macdonald, Rove McManus, Taunton and Susie Youssef.
It received multiple honors, including 11 Logie Awards. Notably, it was Aly and Bickmore who took home two of these awards, specifically the Gold Logies that are decided by viewers’ votes.
Nevertheless, the number of viewers has been decreasing over the past few years – Evidently, The Project managed to draw between 238,000 and 357,000 viewers across the country last week.
