The Project stars poke fun at their own cancellation as they discuss axing of fellow ‘woke’ show Q+ ‘What is happening to this industry?’
The performers of the Project demonstrate that their humor remains intact, despite the show’s cancellation.
In the broadcast on Wednesday, the program aired a sketch that seemed to satirize the media attention generated since Channel 10 declared on Monday that The Project would conclude permanently on June 17.
Comedian Sam Taunton started things off with a joke based on the recent ABC cancellation of the talk show Q+A, which some people view as progressive or ‘awake’, much like The Project.
Initially, it was our team at the Project who faced changes, followed by ABC cancelling Q+A, and now I regretfully announce that yet another significant figure in the entertainment world is being compelled to leave.
Subsequently, the broadcast shifted to an American news segment reporting on the impending retirement of a popular water-skiing squirrel act known as Twiggy, which has been running for quite some time.

After four decades spent on the frozen waters, an accomplished squirrel decided to hang up her skis, as reported by the US anchor in a serious tone.
Afterward, it was explained that the skilled rodent delivered its last show in sunny Orlando, Florida. They also presented video clips of the animal gracefully skiing across the surface of a compact swimming pool.
Sam remarked, “Not a single eye was left unwet, following that video,” and continued, “I can’t help but wonder, what’s becoming of our field?
‘She better not be starting an Only Fans,’ Sarah joked.
A well-known ‘feel-good’ story on US news, Twiggy was launched as an act in 1979.
In 2023, according to Daily Mail, it was revealed that Twiggy, the animal, was the fourth squirrel to learn water-skiing from a Florida couple – not the first human with that name.
In the year 1978, this creature was saved at infancy by Chuck and Lou Ann Best, following an occurrence where a hurricane dislodged it from its nest.
Following the final goodbyes from The Project’s star cast, as the series was formally cancelled after a 16-year run, conservative media figure Steve Price voiced his criticism over the show’s termination.

10 Network revealed the news on a Monday, and hosts Waleed Aly, Sarah Harris, Steve Price, and Sam Taunton expressed their opinions about their dismissal during the initial segment of the Monday broadcast.
Interestingly, it was Price, typically known for his conservative views, who seemed particularly upset about the show’s termination.
The team I’ve worked with here is simply exceptional, and I joined them at age 55. Now, after 15 years, I am 70 years old.”
“I’ve had the pleasure of working with an outstanding team since I started here at the age of 55. Today, 15 years later, I am 70.
‘How an old fat guy like me can survive, I don’t know,’ he said.
In simpler terms, Price expressed his opinions candidly in an article published by The Herald Sun on Monday evening.
He criticized viewers who seemed happily celebrating the end of the ‘woke’ series now that it has been taken off the air.
Price stated, “People who are uninformed, celebrating a show’s cancelation, label it as ‘woke’ and ‘leftist’. However, I stand on the opposite end of that spectrum – I’ve been here nearly since the beginning.
‘Show me that sort of political balance on any ABC TV show – you can’t.’
Price observed: ‘This week, Melbourne and Australia have experienced the loss of something extraordinary – a live TV show filled with passion, bravery, humor, and compassion. It’s truly unfortunate.’

Initially launched under the title “The 7PM Project” back in July 2009, it attracted over a million city viewers during its peak popularity.
Initially, it started off as a 30-minute show, however, as its popularity grew, the length expanded to hour-long episodes.
Primarily filmed at The Como Centre studios in South Yarra, Melbourne, the show titled “The Project” gained recognition for its unique approach to current events, infusing humor into serious news topics.
Over a span of approximately 16 years, it has garnered numerous honors, among them are 11 Logie Awards. Notably, two of these awards, the Gold Logies, were fan-voted and were awarded to Aly and a previous host, Carrie Bickmore.
On the other hand, viewership has been decreasing in recent times, as reported by Daily Mail Australia in March, indicating that the show might be facing a cancellation.
