The Project star breaks down in tears as the show airs final ever Sunday edition after being axed

Rachel Corbett from the Project struggled to maintain composure during her introduction, becoming visibly emotional as the last episode of the canceled show aired over the weekend.

44-year-old Corbett, a regular on the panel show since 2015, appeared to provoke host Sarah Harris, even causing her to appear close to tears.

‘You know it doesn’t take me much,’ Corbett said as she tried to keep a brave face.

‘But you’re such a pretty crier,’ Harris joked, in an attempt to lighten the emotional moment.

Corbett responded by stating that what was said wasn’t accurate, followed by a touching farewell tribute to his departing coworkers.

Moving forward, there’s much more to cover, but before we proceed, allow me to express my gratitude for being part of this show with all of you. It has been an absolute honor and I hold each of you in the highest regard.

On The Project’s Sunday episode, the recurring panelist expressed her gratitude towards the dedicated audience who faithfully attend the program each week, making it all the more special.

Later on, the show’s producer revealed that emotional moment to X, accompanied by the comment, ‘It took just 30 seconds for us to start tearing up during our last week on the air.’

After learning that Waleed Aly is preparing for a new chapter following his departure from prime-time TV, where he has been hosting The Project for over ten years.

Addressing Stellar, the 46-year-old announcer disclosed that although he had a bit of extra warning compared to others, the abrupt termination of the show still took him by surprise.

‘I only knew for less than a week before it was public. So it was all fairly sudden,’ he said.

The toughest day, without a doubt, was the one when the announcement was made – it was particularly challenging because I was surrounded by my coworkers at that time.

‘People that you’ve worked with, in some cases, for more than a decade.’

Aly acknowledged that this particular circumstance isn’t exclusive to the television world alone, but he emphasized that the emotional impact of the revelation was profound, particularly on his immediate family.

He mentioned, “This makes everything even more intense for me since my children have grown up alongside this series. Discussing it with them turned out to be tougher than I thought; they responded in a manner I hadn’t fully foreseen.

Aly, father of Aisha, 22, and Zayd, 18, together with his wife Susan Carland, mentioned that readjusting to a typical family routine following their break feels both joyful and melancholic at the same time.

Due to his nighttime job commitments leaving him unable to attend family dinners for many years, he is now planning a change in his lifestyle, which will involve more time spent on cooking meals and cleaning up afterwards.

Even with the various transformations, Aly acknowledged that layoffs and significant career transitions are simply a common aspect of life in every sector.

He continued, “[This situation] is not exclusive to our circumstances.” It’s something that transpires frequently across various industries and work environments. Each instance saddens me.

On the Project, the regular hosts Waleed Aly, Sarah Harris, and Hamish Macdonald are planning to leave the network. Meanwhile, comedian Taunton is expected to keep appearing as a guest on various Ten programs.

The Project would be pulled from the schedule after 16 years and more than 4,500 episodes.

The last episode is scheduled to broadcast on June 27th, following which a single evening news update at 6 PM will take its place instead.
