The Project hosts stunned as Amy Remeikis makes snarky Father’s Day comment about ‘crap dads’
As a lifestyle expert with extensive experience in media and communication, I find Amy Remeikis’ comment during her interview on The Project to be both surprising and unfortunate. While it is important to acknowledge the complexities of modern parenting, making such a statement on Father’s Day, especially during a discussion about housing shortages and cost of living, seems out of place and unprofessional.
On The Project, the hosts were taken aback into speechless astonishment when guest Amy Remeikis unexpectedly commented about ‘unconventional fathers’ during Father’s Day celebrations.
On Sunday evening, the political editor from The Guardian made an appearance on a current affairs show on Channel Ten to talk about the issue of Australia’s housing scarcity and the escalating cost-of-living predicament.
Towards the conclusion of her conversation with hosts Hamish Macdonald and Sarah Harris, Ms Remeikis playfully acknowledged Father’s Day with a witty remark.
“Here’s wishing a Happy Father’s Day to all the wonderful fathers, as well as the mothers and everyone else who have supported less-than-perfect fathers. She spoke these words.”
As a die-hard enthusiast, I can’t help but share my exhilaration when that outlandish impromptu comment was dropped, leaving the bewildered hosts speechless and me, well, I couldn’t suppress a puzzled grin on my face, Harris seemed to mirror my perplexity.
‘Okay, in other news,’ Macdonald eventually responded as he quickly moved to the next segment.
The studio audience laughed and the awkward moment has since gone viral on social media.
Many people on X questioned a perplexing reference following the broadcast of the segment online, which was later removed.

‘What was that little rant at then about c**p dads? one viewer asked.
‘More time spent with the blow dryer rather than being mean could be a better career move.’
Others slammed the comment and believed that it shouldn’t have been aired.
“I’d like to wish all the wonderful fathers out there a Happy Father’s Day.” Regarding the other comment, it seems they found the original phrase inappropriate or offensive, and perhaps they expressed their feelings in a similarly strong manner. It’s essential to maintain respectful communication when interacting with others online.
‘Just say happy Father’s Day, or don’t.’
But some viewers did see the funny side.
‘I’ve just watched Amy Remeikis discuss capitalism and crap dads on Father’s Day. Cannot ever imagine an equivalent on British TV,’ person wrote.
‘Lol crap dads,’ another person chimed in.
Single parents who solely raise their children alone also leapt to Remeikis’ defence.
‘Just saw you on The Project. As a mum who does both roles. THANK YOU!’ one mum wrote.
A different viewer commented: ‘I happened to watch the tail-end of your appearance on The Project, and I must say, I’m a big fan of what you do!’
Ms. Remeikis frequently shares her political insights across various TV and radio broadcasts, regularly appearing on ABC’s Insider program.
Ms. Remeiks expressed concern that the government should pay attention to the potential of neglecting renters leading up to the next federal election, given the escalating housing predicament.
She asserted that Australians are being excluded from the property market, criticizing the ineffectiveness of housing policies which have progressively made homeownership more expensive.
