The Project Faces Criticism for Asking Tom Cruise a ‘Creepy’ Personal Hygiene Question
This week, the renowned actor Tom Cruise sat down for a motivational 10-minute chat with The Project, discussing his three-decade-long journey creating the Mission Impossible movie series.
On Wednesday evening, the heartfelt program showcased an interview with the seasoned film actor, who spent additional minutes conversing with panelist Georgie Tunny about his most daring stunts, his philosophies on living, and future plans for his renowned character.
After the meeting, Tunny went back to the Channel Ten studio, where her Project colleagues inquired about him with this question: “What is his scent?
‘Georgie,’ Sarah Harris said with a faux serious tone.
‘Sam wants to know, your mum wants to know, I want to know—What’s he smell like?’
The cringeworthy question apparently had Waleed Aly and Sam Macfarlane on the edge of their seats.

‘What does he smell like?’ Sam seconded.
‘It’s honestly the first thing mum asked,’ Georgie agreed.
‘She said “Is there a fragrance coming from Tom Cruise?”‘
‘To be honest, I don’t think my nose was engaged because I was too focused on what’s going on.
‘There was no discernable fragrance, but he smells like a movie star I will say that.’
As a die-hard fan, I couldn’t help but feel uneasy and creeped out during that segment on The Project show airing on Channel Ten. Many fellow viewers echoed my sentiments, finding the entire situation uncomfortable and off-putting.
If a male journalist were to make such comments about a female artist, it could lead to quite a commotion or uproar,” the Reddit user wrote.
‘It was super uncomfortable to watch. Thoughts?’

‘Project is wine-o mum journalism. That question is 100% proof,’ another viewer added.
‘I mean it’s The Project, so what do you expect?’ asked another.
‘Georgie was a credible journalist when she worked at ABC… but now,’ a third viewer chimed in.
Many commentators found it uncomfortable when two journalists were talking about Tom Cruise’s scent.
Tom Cruise has been known to use fragrance.
Though he hasn’t explicitly declared it, certain reports indicate that his preferred perfume might be Eau d’Hadrien by Goutal.
Additionally, he is said to like Gendarme Cologne and Vetiver by Guerlain.
During his interview with The Project, Tom, 62, explained his approach to life and movie-making.

‘Don’t be afraid to be afraid,’ he told Georgie.
Embracing the unknown and diving headfirst into learning is my forte. Whether it’s in a friendship or professional setting, I face challenges fearlessly. Admit it if you don’t know something – that’s just part of growing and exploring life!
Don’t worry, we’ll find a way. We’re in this together. After all, it’s all about teamwork in life and on screen.
Over the course of three decades, the lead actor from Mission Impossible has found that his enthusiasm for the series has not only continued but actually grown even stronger.
‘It has not disappeared,’ he said.
As a child, I used to dream about dedicating my entire life to this pursuit, at the intensity I desired.
He also revealed his hardest stunt to date is in the upcoming last instalment, Dead Reckoning.
Georgia mentioned that The Project only allocated 10 minutes for their pre-recorded interview, but she went over this limit not once, but twice.
Georgie shared with her fellow hosts that Tom had said, “Don’t fret over it, let’s continue our conversation,” and it turned out wonderfully. She added that Tom was extremely gracious with his time.
Tom’s eagerly awaited eighth and concluding part of the Mission: Impossible series is among the first movies to be shown this year at the Cannes Film Festival.
The film, which has faced multiple delays, is finally due to hit cinemas on May 23 2025.
It appears that the movie, with a production cost of nearly $400 million, seems set to become another triumph for the action star. Preliminary viewers are already calling it ‘remarkable.’
