The popularity of Jim Murphy’s Inner Excellence shows it’s always time to read and improve yourself

During a pivotal game between the Philadelphia Eagles and the Green Bay Packers on January 12, 2025 (NFC wild card round win), their star receiver A.J. Brown was engrossed in Jim Murphy’s book titled “Inner Excellence: Train Your Mind for Extraordinary Performance and the Best Possible Life.” This action sparked a surge of interest in Murphy’s book, leading to multiple podcast appearances and an interview on The TODAY Show, thereby increasing his public visibility.

Murphy pointed out that when Brown perused his publication, he demonstrated to the globe that there’s consistently an opportunity for improvement, growth, and reading, regardless of how busy one’s life becomes.

Murphy stated, “AJ Brown accomplished two significant actions. Firstly, he demonstrated that everyone has the capacity for reading. Many people claim they’re too busy, but AJ Brown proves otherwise. He says, ‘You do have time. Watch me.’ And secondly, when you read, you unlock a boundless source of wisdom within your life.

“In essence, he demonstrated to the world that self-honesty, coupled with a genuine desire for improvement, growth, and learning, regardless of public opinion, can lead the way.

Inner Excellence serves as a roadmap for cultivating personal mastery, conquering anxiety, dissolving mental barriers, and honing your subconscious mind’s abilities. To accomplish this goal, Murphy conducted interviews with numerous athletes to gain insights into how to excel when faced with high-pressure situations. The book has recently found a new audience and has become a New York Times bestseller, surprising Murphy by the impact it has had on people’s lives.

Initially, it took me aback when everyone started discussing me and how the book’s sales skyrocketed, using numbers like ’50 million percent.’ I found myself questioning, “Why is there so much focus on me?” I feel inconsequential, just a messenger. But I suppose that’s the allure of the American dream – people see themselves in my role.

It’s astonishing to observe these phenomena: The book has been around for fifteen years, yet I receive daily emails from readers claiming it has transformed their lives. This was not the case just a few months back. Remarkably, many of these individuals are older and express that if they had this book at age 19, their life would have been different. This too, has caught me off guard.

A diverse group of athletes, such as Ryan Dodd (the world’s top-ranked water ski jumper), Vaughn Taylor (a three-time PGA Tour champion), and Kevin Connauton (defenseman for the NHL’s Utah Mammoth), have all recommended his book.

Murphy suggests that, given the alarmingly high rates of anxiety in America and the constant influx of information via technology and social media, it’s crucial to maintain mental clarity and concentration to successfully pursue life objectives.

A.J. Brown shared with me that he reads the book to achieve a clear mind and an unencumbered spirit, as Murphy explained. “Moreover,” Murphy added, “he must confront his apprehensions each time he sets foot on the football field.

If such fears aren’t something you grapple with, there’s no compulsion to delve into it. And if you’re already at peace, with a tranquil mind and an unfettered heart, carry on with your current path.

If you frequently struggle with anxiety, find yourself overwhelmed by excessive thoughts and worries, or often overanalyze situations, and if your purpose feels unclear to you, then I believe seeking help could prove extremely beneficial. Specifically, when your mind is preoccupied with dwelling on the past or future, judging circumstances or others, and you are fearful of others’ opinions, it may be advantageous for you.

Inner Excellence is available at local bookstores or online retailers.
