As a seasoned gamer and binge-watcher of Netflix Originals, I can confidently say that “The Platform” sequel is something I’ve been eagerly anticipating since its first gripping installment. The dystopian world it portrays feels all too real in today’s turbulent times, and the claustrophobic setting of “The Pit” is a chilling reminder of humanity’s capacity for cruelty and survival.
Among Netflix’s top non-English movies ever made, one is set to receive a sequel in October. As part of this year’s Geeked Week celebrations, we’re excited to give you a sneak peek!
In 2019, I became captivated by Galder Gaztelu-Urrutia’s chilling dystopian thriller, “The Platform” (originally titled “El hoyo”). This thought-provoking tale presents a unique form of imprisonment, where inmates are confined within a tower-like structure. The cruel twist is that we all must rely on a single, moving platform for our sustenance. Each day, the platform begins at the top of the tower, providing an abundance to those on higher levels, while leaving the lower floors with mere scraps – if any are left. As a spectator, I found myself both appalled and enthralled by this cynical and twisted depiction of society’s underbelly.
In “The Platform 2“, we revisit “The Pit”, where an enigmatic figure aims to institute a novel system of governance within this self-governed inferno. The follow-up features Hovik Keuchkerian and Milena Smit, with Gaztelu-Urrutia resuming his directorial role.
A freshly unveiled video offers a glimpse into the interaction between the newly introduced characters, Zamiatin (played by Keuchkerian) and Perempuán (portrayed by Smit).
Following their initial greetings, Permpuán recalls her history before The Pit, and a brief flashback ensues where she converses with an unseen character, expressing longing for her ex’s ham croquettes. Additionally, Permpuán mentions that she yearns to enter The Hole as it offers her “time” to erase the memories of her past actions. However, the narrative does not explicitly confirm if Permpuán was responsible for her ex’s demise.
The recently released clip provides additional detail, elaborating on a brief moment from Pempuan’s flashback that was featured in the initial trailer from Netflix a few months back.
The show, known as “The Platform,” is now available for streaming on Netflix. This gives fans a chance to catch up on it before the sequel makes its debut on Friday, October 4.
