The Pitt’s Next Episode Preview Reveals the Tragic Aftermath Of Emma’s Assault

The trailer for Season 2, Episode 12 of The Pitt shows the aftermath of Emma’s attack at the end of the previous episode. Season 2 introduced Emma Nolan (Laëtitia Hollard) as a new nurse observing Charge Nurse Dana Evans on her first day at Pittsburgh Trauma Medical Center (PTMC). Emma is an interesting character because the show highlights the challenges of moving from nursing school to the fast-paced, real-world environment of an Emergency Department (ED).

The season finale of The Pitt saw Emma tasked with checking on a patient named Curtis. He’d been sedated after being brought in following an incident involving a golf club. When Curtis woke up, he was confused, agitated, and couldn’t remember how he ended up in the hospital.

Emma was simply checking Curtis’s vital signs when he unexpectedly attacked her, putting her in a chokehold. The room they were in, Central 14, was closed and soundproof, meaning no one could hear her calls for help. This shocking ending has left fans of The Pitt wondering what will happen to Emma and has sparked a lot of speculation about the future of the story.

The new trailer for Season 2, Episode 12 of HBO Max’s The Pitt shows the devastating consequences of Emma’s attack. The emergency room staff is thrown into chaos when a nurse alerts Robby to a “Code Hula Hoop” – the hospital’s signal for when a healthcare worker has been assaulted.

Robby races to Central 14, likely to help Emma, but it looks like the problem solved itself. The latest trailer suggests Dana might have actually been the one to rescue her.

Okay, so I was totally picking up on something really intense between Robby and Dana. It seemed like Robby was suggesting Dana did something to Curtis, maybe to protect Emma, but she completely played innocent and acted like she had no idea what he was talking about. It was seriously unsettling!

Robby: “You ever gonna tell me what really happened in there?”

Dana: “In where?”

It’s understandable if Dana stepped in to help Emma, considering Emma was attacked previously, and the two had become friends while working closely together over the Fourth of July weekend.

Why Dana Makes the Most Sense To Save Emma in The Pitt

Given her own history of assault and her close relationship with Emma – acting as a mentor, supervisor, and almost a mother figure during Emma’s first shift – Dana is the most logical choice to help Emma through the recent attack storyline in The Pitt.

In the first season of The Pitt, Dana was physically assaulted by a patient named Doug Driscoll, which deeply traumatized her – many viewers believe she’s still affected by it in Season 2. This is highlighted in Season 2, Episode 6, when she quickly stepped in to protect Emma from a patient, firmly stating that “violence against health workers will not be tolerated.”

Dana’s personal experiences make this situation deeply emotional for her. However, her determination to protect Emma and the other nurses—even if it means going to extremes—could be problematic. She may have acted inappropriately with the patient, perhaps by using force or medication without authorization, which would be a serious breach of hospital rules. This likely explains Robby’s worry and could lead to repercussions for Dana.

Dana’s strong desire to protect others stems from her own experiences, and her willingness to help clearly demonstrated the importance of teamwork and support among nurses at The Pitt.
