The Addams Family movies are delightfully strange, quirky, and a little scary – and they’re now a huge hit on streaming! Just two days after arriving on Netflix, both The Addams Family and The Addams Family 2 have become some of the most popular movies available globally on the platform.
As of February 22nd, both The Addams Family and The Addams Family 2 are performing very well on Netflix’s global Top 10 list. The Addams Family 2 is currently in second place, and The Addams Family is in third, according to data from FlixPatrol.
Following the success of Prometheus, which is currently the most popular movie on the streaming service, the two Addams Family movies ranked higher than Firebreak, The Swedish Connection, and Joe’s College Road Trip. They took second and third place, respectively.
The new animated film The Addams Family opened at number three in the U.S. box office, following Expend4bles and Joe’s College Road Trip. Its sequel landed in fourth place. The film also reached number one on the Top 10 Kids Movies list, taking over from the live-action How to Train Your Dragon.
What Is The Animated Addams Family About?
The Addams Family’s animated movies, recently popular again on Netflix, feature big-name actors like Oscar Isaac as Gomez, Charlize Theron as Morticia, Chloë Grace Moretz as Wednesday, and Nick Kroll as Uncle Fester. Finn Wolfhard (from Stranger Things) played Pugsley in the first movie, but Javon Walton (Euphoria) took on the role for the second.
Both The Addams Family and The Addams Family 2 were box office successes, earning $203.7 million and $119.8 million in theaters, respectively. However, critics had very different opinions about the films.
Currently, The Addams Family has a 46% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, with many critics finding it slow and feeling that it didn’t utilize its talented cast effectively. The Addams Family 2 received even more negative reviews, scoring only 28% due to a boring storyline and a focus on commercial appeal over the spirit of the original characters.
Wednesday Star Jenna Ortega Almost Appeared In The Addams Family
Jenna Ortega is now famous for playing Wednesday Addams, but she originally tried out for the role in the 2019 film. She didn’t get the part then, as it went to Chloe Moretz. Ortega shared this story after the first four episodes of the Wednesday series were released on Netflix last summer.
Jenna Ortega described her first experience with the character Wednesday to Entertainment Weekly. While on set for a different project, she stumbled upon some materials related to Wednesday Addams. She asked her mother to keep watch while she investigated in a closet, and after leaving, she told her mom she really wanted to play the role someday, thinking it would be amazing. She eventually got the opportunity with the popular Netflix series.
Wednesday, The Addams Family and The Addams Family 2 are available to stream on Netflix.
