The Perfect Couple episode 2: The bracelet is out of the bag!
As a seasoned armchair detective with a knack for unraveling TV mysteries, I must say that the death of Meritt in “The Perfect Couple” has me hooked. From my vantage point as an avid observer of human nature and a lover of intricate plots, it’s clear that there are more questions than answers at this point.
Amelia (Eve Hewson), still reeling from shock, remains silent when questioned by police. All she can bring herself to repeat is that this incident was her fault. It becomes clear why Amelia feels responsible, as a flashback reveals the party didn’t end in laughter and dancing. Instead, Amelia and Meritt (Meghann Fahy) had a heated argument – an argument that, from my perspective, seemed justified
Remember the expensive bracelet Greer (Nicole Kidman) found out her husband Tag (Liv Schreiber) bought? Well, Amelia saw Meritt wear the bracelet and was curious about it. Meritt…why would you even wear a gift from your lover in front of his family and wife?! No. Let’s go back further. Why would you have an affair with your best friend’s future father-in-law? Make it make sense. Still, as angry as Amelia was, she didn’t think this would result in Meritt’s death.
The inquiry persists as everyone seems oddly secretive. It’s peculiar that Abby (Dakota Fanning), Thomas’ (Jack Reynor) wife, is acting unusual. She cleaned a glass left on the sink, something she never does. Abby tidying up? Highly improbable. Could that be evidence she just eliminated? I suspect Abby got up for a drink and saw what occurred. Abby informs the detective that she retired early, which seems plausible given her pregnancy status
Another suspect that I think is only a distraction is Shooter (Ishaan Khattar). He panics and hops on the first ferry out of there. The police catch up to Shooter and bring him in. It won’t be until the next episode that we’ll know what happened. But I doubt that he is directly involved in Meritt’s death.
Focusing more attention on Greer and Tag seems prudent, given that Greer swiftly identified the bracelet’s owner due to Meritt’s decision to wear it. Meanwhile, Tag shares a drink with his wife on the balcony. Greer instructed Tag to tidy up the glasses and bottle because she often cleans up after him. It’s also important to remember that Greer is a well-known figure, so her dignity and reputation are not her only concerns. However, I doubt Greer and Tag would handle such tasks alone; they probably had assistance
Which individual, in your opinion, orchestrated this plan? Now available for streaming, all six episodes of “The Perfect Couple” can be found on Netflix
