The Perfect Couple episode 1 perfectly sets up the mysterious story (Review)

As a seasoned gamer and binge-watcher with over a decade of television marathons under my belt, I must say that Netflix’s latest offering, “The Perfect Couple,” has piqued my interest from the get-go. The star-studded cast and the intriguing plot have me hooked, and I can’t help but be reminded of a certain game of Clue where everyone had a motive!

Netflix has just released their latest murder mystery series titled “The Perfect Duo,” with six episodes available today! This captivating drama boasts an impressive ensemble cast including Nicole Kidman, Liev Schreiber, Eve Hewson, Meghann Fahy, and Dakota Johnson among others. Currently, we are delving into the first episode titled “Wedding Preview.” SPOILER ALERT:

In this initial episode, we’re provided with the foundation for all characters, revealing their current situations. Given the numerous personalities, it’s crucial to familiarize ourselves with each one. For instance, Amelia shares her doubts about her feelings towards Benji with her closest confidant Merritt, her maid of honor. Essentially, she admits that she doesn’t experience the expected intensity for Benji. To put it simply, it seems like a late revelation on her part

Similar to Merritt’s words, you still have time to change your mind if that’s truly what you prefer. However, it’s the eve of the wedding. Thomas Winbury, on the other hand, is unpredictable and tends to talk excessively. As Greer, Kidman maintains her regal presence as always. It’s undeniable that she outshines everyone else on screen. She exhibits strength and seems to run the household with ease, never hesitating to express her opinions. It’s clear that she dislikes Amelia quite a bit

The Winburys often make sly, amusing remarks that suggest a lack of concern for others, given their wealth. However, it’s evident that none of the couples in this series can truly be considered perfect. Greer discovers a gold bracelet her husband Tag purchased, which wasn’t intended for her, hinting at infidelity. There seems to be tension between Amelia and Benji when they attempt intimacy, while Thomas and Abby appear to merely tolerate each other. It appears that their lavish lifestyle masks underlying issues in their relationships

The majority of this episode doesn’t delve deeply into the central mystery, but given its role as an introductory one, I won’t criticize the writing too harshly in that regard. However, we do catch glimpses of some intriguing elements. For instance, what secrets is Chief’s daughter, Chloe, concealing, and how does she fit into this complex web? And then there’s the shocking revelation at the end: Merritt was the victim! Although her vibrant personality made me expect her to survive, I wasn’t entirely surprised by her demise. She was a delightful character, and it’s tragic that she met such an unfortunate end

In summary, I believe that “The Perfect Couple” pilot effectively introduced the storyline, characters, and a hint of intrigue to make us eagerly anticipate the following episode. I’m excited for episode 2; you can read our review about it here. Join us tomorrow as we discuss episodes 3 and 4, and on Saturday we’ll be diving into episodes 5 and 6. The Perfect Couple episode 1 receives a grade of B. (Informal and easy to read)

All 6 episodes of The Perfect Couple are now streaming on Netflix.
