Although HBO hasn’t officially confirmed a second season for the Penguin series starring Colin Farrell, their recent deal with showrunner Lauren LeFranc hints that there might be plans for one. By signing an agreement with HBO, The Penguin’s showrunner has extended her collaboration with them, leading fans to speculate about the potential continuation of her DC series.
The Penguin showrunner pens new deal with HBO, ignites Season 2 talks
On August 19, Variety announced that Lauren LeFranc had signed a two-year contract with both HBO and HBO Max. Furthermore, she started her own production company, named Acid and Tender Productions. This development is seen as a positive indication for The Penguin series’ future, as LeFranc’s prolonged relationship with HBO may mean that Season 2 could be produced soon.
LeFranc expressed great excitement about continuing his collaborative journey with HBO. He praised them for their consistent backing of his work on The Penguin as well as other projects. Acid and Tender Productions, his production company, was birthed out of a genuine passion to nurture unique narratives and viewpoints from talented artists who resonate with him. LeFranc spent much of his career in writers’ rooms, and he finds nothing more fulfilling than when they are bustling with creativity. His dream for Acid and Tender is to establish it as a sanctuary where writers and filmmakers, who share the same passion for telling genuine, eccentric, character-driven stories, regardless of genre, can thrive.
Following the exceptional showing of The Penguin in awards season, LeFranc’s agreement with HBO has been established. The series was recognized with a remarkable 24 Emmy nominations, making it the second most-nominated show this year, surpassed only by Severance on Apple TV+.
Although the update mentioned earlier, The Penguin Season 2 hasn’t received an official green light from its creators yet. In a recent interview, Warner Bros. Television Group Chairman and CEO Channing Dungey hinted at the possibility of another season but emphasized that their primary focus is currently on Matt Reeves’ The Batman Part II.
