The Penguin and the 5 HBO/Max shows still coming in 2024 we can’t wait to watch
As a seasoned gamer with over two decades of experience under my belt, I’ve seen it all – from the rise and fall of gaming giants to the evolution of storytelling in video games. And when it comes to streaming services, Max has been consistently delivering top-notch content that keeps me hooked. The upcoming shows in 2024 are no exception!
Max is one of the most popular streaming services because it gives people a ton of shows to watch. Game of Thrones, The Sopranos, and The Wire are classics, but it doesn’t stop there. Max continues to debut shows that draw people to the platform. For example, there’s The Last of Us and White Lotus. Both programs were hits with anticipated upcoming seasons in 2025. Before we get to 2025, here are six shows to look forward to in 2024.
The Penguin
Release Date: Thursday, September 19
A platform that allows for the growth of a comic book world has indeed grown it, as seen in the case of the The Batman spinoff, focusing on The Penguin. Some might find Oswald Cobblepot (the Penguin) an unexpected choice for a series, given that characters like Joker or Catwoman are more commonly associated with such projects. However, in this instance, choosing the Penguin was the ideal starting point.
1. I can’t wait to see Colin Farrell bring Oswald Cobblepot to life! His criminal escapades and connections with the underworld will keep us guessing, and might even soften our perception of him as a villain. Plus, there’s plenty of intrigue, drama, and unexpected twists in the Iceberg Lounge that make it an enticing watch, even for those who aren’t die-hard Batman or comic book fans!
Rick and Morty the Anime
Release date: Thursday, August 15
In a mind-blowing turn of events, it seems like the creators of “Rick and Morty” have decided to take things up a notch by giving it an anime makeover! What’s particularly intriguing is that our dear Morty seems less fazed than usual, which means we’ll be spared from the frequent “Oh, geez, Rick” reactions. I, for one, welcome this change because it promises to offer more than just the familiar characters in new animated forms.
Andrew Tate: Icon or Toxic? A Faking It Special
Release date: August 26
Allow me to make myself plain. I hold the opinion that Andrew Tate is an individual with questionable character. His words and his treatment towards and regarding women are appalling. Despite this, such a program may appeal to enthusiasts of documentaries.
According to IMDb, professionals in body language analysis and forensics scrutinize his answers during interrogation. It’s intriguing to observe how Tate reacts to the questioning that might deepen the pit he’s created. Yet, it could potentially benefit him too. So, let’s wait and find out.
The Franchise
Release date: TBD
Pursuing knowledge about “The Franchise” has proven challenging, as there are no trailers available and websites only specify a release date in 2024. This may leave you puzzled about its inclusion here. However, let me clarify its presence on this list with three straightforward reasons:
As a die-hard fan, I find the concept of a comedy series aiming to establish a superhero franchise quite intriguing. It promises to poke fun at all the familiar tropes often seen in superhero shows and films. Moreover, the series, titled The Franchise, boasts an exceptional talent like Aya Cash (famed for her roles in The Boys and You’re the Worst). Lastly, going into this show with no preconceived notions might just enhance the enjoyment.
Dune: Prophecy
Release date: November 2024
The creators of the Dune franchise are savvy enough to capitalize on a hot trend, as the movies perform well in cinemas and their streaming premieres are eagerly awaited. Delving further into the lore seems wise, as it could attract more subscribers to Max and draw more viewers to the Dune films. Those who missed the movie may choose to watch it in preparation for the series.
Harley Quinn
Release date: TBD
Harley Quinn’s own series showcases her widespread appeal – even Kite Man got his own spin-off due to her immense popularity! The show cleverly blends humor with intelligence while tackling complex themes, such as love, mental health, and self-acceptance amidst a backdrop of violence and occasionally risqué humor.
The duration of Harley Quinn‘s run is open-ended. With numerous DC Comics characters to explore and an exceptional creative team, we might see a long-lasting series akin to Supernatural, or the show could end after six seasons. Regardless, Harley Quinn is a must-see TV show of 2024.
