Music is a defining element of Peaky Blinders. Though unseen, it powerfully impacts the show’s artistic and emotional atmosphere. As with any great film or series, the music is a major contributor to its overall quality.
The latest Peaky Blinders story is coming to the big screen as a movie called Peaky Blinders: The Immortal Man on March 6th. A new soundtrack will be released at the same time, including five original songs and a fresh recording of Nick Cave’s “Red Right Hand,” the show’s famous theme song.
Cillian Murphy, the lead actor in the series, particularly enjoyed one aspect of the show’s music. As someone of Irish heritage, he was especially pleased to hear music from Fontaines D.C., an Irish band who contributed to seven songs on the soundtrack.
Cillian Murphy excited to have Fontaines D.C. as part of the Peaky Blinders: The Immortal Man soundtrack
In a recent interview with BBC Radio 1, actor Murphy, alongside Fontaines D.C.’s Grian Chatten, discussed film and music. Murphy particularly praised the inclusion of one of his favorite bands on the movie’s soundtrack.
Murphy explained that certain music perfectly complements the atmosphere of Peaky Blinders. He felt Fontaines D.C.’s music, with its rebellious and edgy feel, was a great fit, and he’s excited to have Grian, a musician from that band, contribute to the show’s overall sound.
Murphy confessed he was a big fan of the band, even calling himself a “groupie.” Because of his personal connection to their music, the soundtrack for Peaky Blinders: The Immortal Man is sure to please Cillian Murphy – and probably many other listeners as well.
