The Paradigm Fortnite skin returned by mistake, and chaos ensued
As a veteran Fortnite player with years of experience under my belt, I must say that the Paradigm skin saga has left me both amused and bewildered. The return of this legendary skin after five long years was a nostalgic trip down memory lane, but the swift removal left many players feeling like they’d just been punked by Epic Games.
A rare Fortnite skin returned after five years and Epic Games had to pull it after one hour.
On August 6th, an intriguing saga unfolded, filled with unexpected events after the Fortnite Item Shop refreshed. To the disappointment of numerous players, clicking the “Shop” tab within the game revealed the return of the extremely rare Paradigm skin, which was initially marketed as a limited-time item. The internet buzzed with reactions, and although Epic Games pulled the skin an hour later, some had already bought it, hoping for its legitimacy to be acknowledged. This tale’s plot twists are nothing short of extraordinary, and here’s how it unfolded.
Fortnite’s blunder brings Paradigm skin back to the game
Back on October 11, 2019, precisely five years ago, Epic Games unveiled the Paradigm skin in Fortnite. They promoted this cosmetic item as a rare, time-limited offer. True to their word, they made it available for only three days before it vanished from the Item Shop, seemingly for good, up until August 6, 2024.

On August 6th, an unexpected turn of events took place. The Paradigm skin, which had been absent for a while, reappeared in the Fortnite Item Shop – but this time, it was available for an extremely limited period. Those who managed to play the game at that moment could buy this five-year-old skin. Unfortunately, those who didn’t act swiftly missed their opportunity, as Epic Games pulled Paradigm from the shop just one hour later.
As a die-hard Fortnite enthusiast, I found myself pondering the question of whether Epic Games would let sneaky gamers hold on to that elusive skin they’d managed to snag. The community buzzed with anticipation, waiting for the developers to chime in. However, it seemed like the saga was far from over.
Epic Games announces plan to remove Paradigm from players’ lockers before reneging
Approximately an hour following the reappearance of the Paradigm skin in the Fortnite Item Shop due to a technical glitch, Epic Games issued a statement. The developers admitted that the skin was mistakenly returned to the shop and promised to remove it from players’ lockers and fully refund those who had purchased it.
Feeling disappointment swiftly swept over the cunning Fortnite collectors, thinking they’d accomplished the year’s greatest heist. But fear not, as we learned before, the tale didn’t conclude there. Later that evening, Epic Games issued another announcement, confirming they would uphold the Paradigm purchases. As a gesture of goodwill for those who bought the skin on October 19th, they promised an exclusive variation would be added to their inventory at a future time.
As a gamer, I can tell you that’s where the tale takes a pause, at least for now. It’s not the first time I’ve seen Epic Games accidentally release something prematurely. Back in December 2022, the ultra-rare “Tidy” emote popped up in the Item Shop, only to be swiftly taken down by Epic. Now, it seems like Paradigm skin has made a surprise comeback in Fortnite, but we might never know why this happened.
