The Academy Awards is about to announce a significant change that’s expected to have a big impact on Hollywood.
Beginning with the 2029 Oscars, the ceremony will be streamed live on YouTube. The Academy has reached a multi-year agreement granting YouTube exclusive worldwide streaming rights. For many years, the Oscars were broadcast on ABC, and that agreement will continue through 2028.
Previously, international viewers faced limitations accessing the ABC awards show due to varying broadcast rights. Starting in 2029, YouTube will stream the entire event live and without cost to a global audience. This includes coverage of the red carpet, exclusive behind-the-scenes footage, and the Governors Ball. U.S. YouTube TV subscribers will also have access to the show.
