The One Show removed from BBC One schedule in shake-up tonight – here’s why

If you were planning to watch The One Show on BBC One tonight (Friday, May 8th), it won’t be on. Alex Jones announced at the end of yesterday’s show that the episode has been cancelled.

The show usually airs at 7pm on weeknights, but tonight the channel is showing election results instead.

Although shows like Pointless have switched to BBC Two, The One Show isn’t on the air today.

So, no show tomorrow because of all the election stuff, but we’re back on Monday! And get this – Sir Ian McKellen is going to be on, along with Sandra Oh, who you probably know from Killing Eve and Grey’s Anatomy. Oh, and they gave a shout-out to Sir David Attenborough for his birthday, which is awesome. Catch you all next week!

Thankfully, the usual broadcast schedule will continue as planned next week, including next Friday.

I’m excited to see that BBC News is doing a special called ‘Election 26’ tonight! It’s taking over the usual time for ‘The One Show’ – from 7 to 7:30pm. Then, they’re following it up with a special edition of ‘Question Time’ right after!

Fiona Bruce will lead a one-hour discussion and breakdown of the election results. She’ll be joined by a panel of politicians and experts, and the event will be held in front of a live audience.

Following the political coverage, BBC One will switch gears to honor Sir David Attenborough’s birthday with a special concert broadcast from the Royal Albert Hall.

Kirsty Young will host a special 90-minute program called David Attenborough’s 100 Years on Planet Earth, featuring appearances by Sir Michael Palin, Steve Backshall, Liz Bonnin, and Chris Packham.

I actually planned to have a low-key celebration for my 100th birthday, but it looks like many of you had other plans,” the man shared yesterday. “I’m truly overwhelmed by all the birthday wishes – they’ve come from everyone from preschool children to people in care homes, and so many wonderful individuals and families of all ages.

He added that while he couldn’t respond to everyone individually, he wanted to sincerely thank them all for their thoughtful messages. He also wished those organizing their own gatherings a wonderful day.

The One Show returns to BBC One and iPlayer on Monday at 7pm.

The latest issue of Living Legends is available now! This special 100-page, full-color magazine celebrates the life and work of Sir David Attenborough. You can find it at newsstands or order it online.
