The One Scene in Independence Day That Left Me Speechless (And It’s Not Bill Pullman’s Speech)
Before experiencing “Independence Day” for myself, my prior knowledge was limited to Bill Pullman delivering a legendary speech as president and the presence of aliens in the plot. With my Hulu membership on the 4th of July, I found myself utterly amazed by this movie. However, what truly left an impact wasn’t just that iconic speech but another unforgettable scene that elevated the film to a whole new level. This is a scene I simply must discuss!
All I Knew About Independence Day Was Bill Pullman Gave A Great Speech, And He Did
Before we delve into the pivotal scene I’d like to highlight, it’s important to acknowledge the deserving accolades. Bill Pullman’s portrayal of President Thomas J. Whitmore in this disaster movie is commendable, and he excelled throughout the film that was nearly titled Doomsday. However, his speech stands out as the most noteworthy moment.
As a movie buff, experiencing the former airforce pilot turned leader climbing onto the bed of a pickup truck, armed with a megaphone, delivering an electrifying speech left me on the edge of my seat. I couldn’t help but feel the urge to leap to my feet, salute, and join his cause – much like when President Pullman rallied his troops in a scene I won’t forget anytime soon.
If we are victorious, the Fourth of July won’t be just an American celebration anymore. Instead, it will mark the day when all voices united worldwide, declaring: “We won’t slip away quietly into darkness! We won’t give up without a struggle! We’ll persevere! We’ll survive!” Today, we honor our Independence Day!
Later on, he leapt from the vehicle and boarded an aircraft, heading out to engage the extraterrestrials. Truly a brave soul.
Yet, this tale boasts many heroic figures, but it’s not the memorable speech that often comes to mind for me; instead, what lingers is the scene where Jeff Goldblum and Will Smith embarked on their space voyage.

It’s Will Smith And Jeff Goldblum Flying That Alien Spaceship That Really Got Me
Initially, Bill Pullman’s speech served as a powerful inspiration for joining the fight. Yet, it was Will Smith and Jeff Goldblum who truly took center stage when they piloted an alien spacecraft towards the colossal enemy vessel threatening their safety.
In the course of the film, Captain Steve Hiller, portrayed by Smith, consistently demonstrates his exceptional skills on duty and embarks on the most daring space mission. Concurrently, David Levinson, played by Goldblum, is dispatched to help him. Despite their seemingly unlikely partnership, they collaborated seamlessly as they carried out a sequence that was both amusing and action-packed, ultimately destroying the aliens.
What I can’t get out of my mind is that pivotal moment in the movie Independence Day when the two main characters destroy their enemies, which we’ll delve into further.

They’re The Ones Who Really Defeated The Big Bad In One Big, Giant, Action-Packed And Funny Sequence
It’s the actions of Steven and David that pave the way for the team of pilots to ultimately destroy the alien spaceship. These two individuals were tasked with infiltrating the giant spacecraft and piloting an actual alien vessel.
Against all odds, they cling tenaciously to their remaining courage, carrying out their strategy. Incredibly, success is within reach! Upon striking the alien, they skillfully navigate away, destroying the menacing spaceship that threatened humanity’s existence.
The triumphant scene had me applauding from my couch, and I found myself yearning to join Will Smith’s exuberant cheers as he skillfully navigated the spaceship out of the larger one just before it detonated. Furthermore, the engaging performances within the spaceship combined with the undeniably spectacular special and practical effects employed for the alien creatures and the blast left me utterly astonished, causing my jaw to drop.
Yet, what truly made this moment unforgettable wasn’t only its grandeur; it was also the flawless humor-filled camaraderie between Smith and Goldblum.

Will Smith And Jeff Goldblum Are The Dynamic Duo I Never Knew I Needed
I’ve enjoyed a good chunk of both Jeff Goldblum’s top films and Will Smith’s stellar acting roles, yet it somehow escaped my notice just how memorable their performances were in the movie “Independence Day”.
Throughout the movie, each character’s journey kept me tense and amused. Smith hauling the alien across the desert was top-notch entertainment indeed. But it wasn’t until they converged that the real enchantment began.
They were discussing “checkmate” nervously while lighting their cigars, creating a tender, exposed moment – a tranquil prelude to the impending storm. Witnessing their camaraderie in that scene was touching, and I admired how they united to achieve their goal. However, things took an amusing turn next.
Following David’s activation of the infectious agent, it was incredibly entertaining to watch the duo from behind the windshield as they exchanged witty remarks.
- David: Hey, alright, look at us, take a look at the Earthlings. Goodbye!
- Steve: Y’all take care, all right. Nothing but love for you.
In the film, they frequently displayed their humor, but nothing exemplified it more than their banter as they exited the spaceship. From debating if the fat lady had indeed sung, to Goldblum’s driving antics from the backseat, to his Elvis quotes and imitations, I found myself laughing heartily while still being captivated by the action.
The most thrilling segment of the movie culminated events dramatically and united all characters. For a considerable portion of the film, the main characters were individually advancing towards each other. Witnessing them unite against the aliens, particularly Goldblum and Smith orchestrating this grand, humorous confrontation, was incredibly gratifying.
Next year on the 4th of July, I’m certain I’ll rewatch the movie “Independence Day” once more. It’s an exceptional disaster film brimming with unforgettable moments and outstanding acting. But what I will remember the most is that humorous, contentious, and heroic exchange between Will Smith and Jeff Goldblum – a scene that never fails to amuse me.
