The Old Guard 2 finally confirms Netflix release date after long delay

It’s no wonder that “The Old Guard” is considered one of the top action films available on Netflix; thus, it came as no shock when a follow-up was announced in August of 2021.

It’s quite unexpected that we’ve had to wait so long for the sequel since it was filmed in 2022, but the wait is nearly coming to an end at last.

It’s been officially announced that “The Old Guard 2” will hit Netflix screens on July 2. That means we have approximately six months left before we can rejoin Charlize Theron’s character, Andy, and her band of eternal fighters once more.

According to the graphic novel series penned by Greg Rucka, the upcoming sequel follows Andy and their team as they strive to safeguard humankind against a powerful, imminent danger that jeopardizes their survival.

In addition to Charlize Theron, the cast of The Old Guard 2 includes returning actors such as KiKi Layne, Matthias Schoenaerts, Marwan Kenzari, Luca Marinelli, Veronica Ngô, and Chiwetel Ejiofor, who previously played their roles in the original film.

Additionally joining the cast are Henry Golding and Uma Thurman; however, their characters’ roles and whether they will be allies or adversaries remain undisclosed at this time.

Victoria Mahoney replaced Gina Prince-Bythewood as the director of ‘The Old Guard 2’. While Prince-Bythewood will continue her role as a producer, Greg Rucka and Sarah L Walker are adapting his own graphic novel for the sequel.

Previously, Theron assured fans that the postponement of the sequel was not indicative of its possible cancellation on Netflix, unlike Halle Berry’s “The Mothership”.

Theron previously allayed fan concerns about the delay of the sequel by stating it wasn’t a sign that it might be cancelled on Netflix like Halle Berry’s “The Mothership”.

Instead, it was just down to Netflix going through “quite a changeover”.

Due to some issues, our post-production work had to halt around five weeks in. I can see they were undergoing significant changes, and I completely empathize with them.

The Old Guard 2 is released on Netflix on July 2.
