The Official 10 Strongest Dragon Ball Super Forms in 2025, Ranked

Stories often feature villains who become increasingly powerful, constantly raising the stakes. While characters can sometimes improve enough through training to win, it’s not always enough. When that happens, they often need to unlock a new, more powerful form. These transformations, like the various Super Saiyan levels in Dragon Ball Z, tend to be the most memorable parts of the story.

The Dragon Ball series has evolved to a stage where introducing new, more powerful forms is a quick way to generate excitement for fans. Dragon Ball Super has done this frequently, showcasing a variety of unique transformations and power-ups. With the series continuing to evolve and aiming for even greater achievements in 2026, now is a good time to review the most powerful transformations seen in Dragon Ball Super so far.

Future Trunks is a fan-favorite character from Dragon Ball Z, so viewers were excited when he reappeared in Dragon Ball Super‘s “Future” Trunks Saga. Once again, he needs the Z-Fighters to help save his future, but this time the threat comes from rebellious gods. Dragon Ball Super shows how much stronger Trunks has become since his last appearance, having trained with Future Shin and Future Kibito and even achieving the Super Saiyan 2 level. A crucial turning point happens when Trunks fights alongside Goku and Vegeta against Goku Black and Future Zamasu, and he begins to lose hope – leading to a powerful transformation.

When pushed to his limits, Future Trunks transforms into Super Saiyan Rage, a powerful state that allows him to channel energy through his Sword of Hope, similar to how Goku uses the Spirit Bomb. In this form, he manages to cut Fused Zamasu in half, achieving more success against the villain than even Vegito Blue. However, it’s hard to accurately measure the full extent of Super Saiyan Rage’s power because it only appears once in the series under these specific circumstances.

The series Dragon Ball Super introduces the concept of godly energy, leading to powerful new forms like Super Saiyan God and Super Saiyan Blue. Goku and Vegeta primarily fight in the Super Saiyan Blue form throughout most of the series. Vegeta later unlocks the full potential of this form, achieving Super Saiyan Blue Evolved. The series also establishes that Super Saiyan Blue uses a lot of energy and can be draining to use.

Vegeta was the first to effectively switch between Super Saiyan God and Super Saiyan Blue, saving his energy by only using Blue when he really needed to attack or defend. Super Saiyan Blue Evolved solves the problem of energy drain, letting fighters use the power of Blue without constantly losing stamina. It’s the most powerful form of the transformation, and Vegeta’s version is a more controlled upgrade compared to Goku’s Blue Kaio-Ken.

For a long time, fans thought Goku couldn’t use the Kaio-Ken technique while transformed into a Super Saiyan. However, Dragon Ball Super showed this wasn’t true when Goku combined the two with a powerful attack against Hit from Universe 6. Goku revealed he’d trained to use this combination, hoping to defeat Beerus, but it was incredibly risky – with only a 10% chance of success and a 90% chance of being fatal. We see Goku use Blue Kaio-Ken, initially at a level of x10, against both Hit and Fused Zamasu, and later pushes it even further to x20 during his battle with Jiren in the Tournament of Power.

While Blue Kaio-Ken’s power can still be increased, it might actually surpass Super Saiyan Blue Evolved. However, using Blue Kaio-Ken has serious drawbacks that could make it impractical for most fighters. After using it, Goku suffers a temporary but complete loss of energy and control, leaving him vulnerable.

Fighting tournaments are common in Dragon Ball, but the Tournament of Power was unlike anything seen before. It was a massive, universe-versus-universe battle where losing meant complete destruction. Goku, Vegeta, and their team from Universe 7 initially did well, but they struggled against Jiren. Jiren spent much of the tournament meditating, which made him even stronger. He eventually unleashed his Full Power and Super Full Power forms, with the latter proving a match for Goku’s powerful Ultra Instinct transformation.

Watching the Tournament of Power, Jiren in his full power form seemed nearly impossible to defeat. Even Goku and Vegeta working together couldn’t land a definitive victory against him. He was just incredibly strong. But thinking about it now, the heroes of Dragon Ball Super have gotten significantly more powerful since then. It’s hard to say exactly where Jiren would stand against current versions of Goku with Perfected Ultra Instinct, Orange Piccolo, or others – we really need to see a rematch to get a clear idea.

The movie Dragon Ball Super: Broly officially added a fan-favorite character, Broly, to the current storyline. This version of Broly has a revised history and is portrayed as both more powerful and more understanding. The film features intense transformations, including a new ‘Wrathful’ form and the powerful Legendary Super Saiyan state.

Broly, in his Legendary Super Saiyan form, initially dominates Goku and Vegeta, even when they’ve achieved Super Saiyan Blue. However, when they fuse into Gogeta Blue, they’re able to defeat him. Dragon Ball Super has shown that Broly is learning to control his transformations, making them both stronger and more consistent. His power is comparable to Orange Piccolo, establishing a new level of strength that puts many heroes on a similar playing field as they prepare to face Black Frieza.

Unlike Saiyans who can transform multiple times to increase their strength, Piccolo has limited options for boosting his power, making it hard to keep up with the growing strength of others. Piccolo has become more powerful by fusing with Nail and Kami, but his first true transformation happens in Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero. Facing a difficult battle, Piccolo asks Shenron to unlock his hidden potential. Shenron responds by awakening Piccolo’s dormant power, resulting in his new form: Power Awakened Piccolo.

Shenron also included a surprising bonus: a new form for Piccolo that makes him look more like the powerful, sometimes frightening Namekians of the past. This powerful, rougher version finally makes Piccolo as strong as the Saiyans in Dragon Ball Super. This orange transformation is brand new, and it’s still unknown if other Namekians can achieve it, or if Piccolo has even more powerful stages to unlock.

The ongoing competition between Vegeta and Goku is a highlight of the Dragon Ball series. They’re constantly surpassing each other, but this changes during the Tournament of Power. Vegeta realizes that the Ultra Instinct technique doesn’t fit his fighting style and trying to force it would actually weaken him. Instead, he focuses on developing his own unique path, which allows him to reach a new level of power.

Ultra Ego gets stronger as Vegeta experiences more damage and anger, allowing him to continuously grow in power. This process seems limitless, with the only real danger being Vegeta overexerting himself. While using Ultra Ego, Vegeta essentially transforms into his own God of Destruction, and can use powerful techniques like Hakai and the Sphere of Destruction.

Goku is famous for mastering the various Super Saiyan forms in the Dragon Ball series. However, Dragon Ball Super introduces a new power system called Ultra Instinct, which becomes Goku’s main goal. He initially unlocks the early stages – Ultra Instinct -Sign- and Autonomous Ultra Instinct – during the Tournament of Power. Ultra Instinct has different levels of mastery, with Perfected Ultra Instinct being the most powerful form, a state that Angels are naturally able to achieve.

Goku trains with Merus, an Angel, learning to fully control Ultra Instinct and unlock a powerful energy form. He then develops his own version of Ultra Instinct, called True Ultra Instinct, that feels more natural to him. Goku realizes connecting with his emotions is even more valuable than simply increasing his power, showing he’s gaining a deeper understanding and mastery of Ultra Instinct.

Throughout Dragon Ball Z, the show hinted that Gohan would surpass Goku in strength, but during the Buu Saga, the story shifted back to focusing on Goku as the main hero. This trend continued in Dragon Ball Super, where Gohan prioritized family life with his wife and daughter, Pan, over fighting. While the Tournament of Power sparked some of his fighting spirit again, Gohan didn’t unlock a significant new power level until the battle against Cell Max in the Super Hero saga.

Gohan achieves a new level called Beast Mode, an even more powerful form of his Ultimate transformation, but one that’s special to him. Goku initially wonders if Broly could also reach this form, but Gohan clarifies it’s tied to his own unique strength, mindset, and reasons for fighting. Gohan easily defeats Cell Max in this form and seems to be winning against Goku, even while Goku is using Ultra Instinct, during their practice fight. This new power also surpasses the levels of Broly, Vegeta, and Gotenks, showing just how strong Gohan has become.

Frieza is famous for dramatically changing his form multiple times, starting a trend for villains who gain power by transforming. He first showed this in Dragon Ball Z with his fourth form and 100% power, but he took it even further in Dragon Ball Super with even stronger transformations. Interestingly, Frieza had never bothered to train before. His most powerful form, Black Frieza, came about after he spent ten years training in a special dimension similar to the Hyperbolic Time Chamber.

Although we’ve only seen a little of Black Frieza in Dragon Ball Super, he’s incredibly powerful – able to defeat both Ultra Ego Vegeta and Goku in his True Ultra Instinct form with just one hit. He even takes out Gas with a single punch, something Goku, Vegeta, and Granolah couldn’t manage. It’s also worth noting that while Granolah and Gas are very strong in their upgraded forms, their power comes from Dragon Ball wishes that gave them an unfair advantage.
