The Office Australia first look: Streaming giant Prime Video announce premiere date and plot details for the Down Under reboot

As a lifestyle expert with a penchant for all things entertainment, I must say that the upcoming Down Under version of The Office is shaping up to be quite the spectacle! With Felicity Ward stepping into the shoes of Ricky Gervais as Hannah Howard and an impressive lineup of Australian talent joining her, this remake has the potential to be a roaring success.

Amazon’s Prime Video service has revealed that they will debut the entire eight-episode Australian adaptation of the beloved BBC sitcom “The Office” on October 18th.

Comedian Felicity Ward is set to star in the role made famous by Ricky Gervais.

In a new role, the 43-year-old regular on “Have You Been Paying Attention?” takes on the character of Hannah Howard, a woman who works tirelessly to maintain harmony within her team as they navigate through tumultuous corporate challenges.

And producers have now revealed more plot details about the local iteration.

The series centres around Managing Director of packaging firm Flinley Craddick, Hannah (Ward), as she sets out to stonewall attempts by head office to shut down her branch.

Eagerly clinging to the office routine, I, the overzealous fan, tirelessly concoct schemes to hinder my team’s shift towards remote working, despite the mounting pressures of unyielding deadlines that our workforce grapples with daily.

As a connoisseur of all things stylish and trendy, I’m thrilled to share that the visionaries behind our beloved series have unveiled a sneak peek image from the upcoming season! This intriguing snapshot showcases our protagonist, Ward, in the guise of Hannah. Dressed in a chic black business skirt and a practical top, she’s striking a pose in her corner office, with an impressive view stretching out to an industrial park beyond. It’s a tantalizing glimpse into the captivating world we’ll be immersed in soon!

Also announced this week are Ward’s co-stars for the much anticipated series.

Among them are Edith Poor, a 32-year-old actor from Lord of the Rings, and Steen Raskopoulos, 37, who is recognized for his roles on Whose Line Is It Anyway? Australia.

As a devoted admirer, I’m thrilled to be part of the stellar cast in our latest production, which includes Shari Sebbens from the smash hit film The Sapphires. Additionally, I share the screen with the hilarious Kiwi comedians Josh Thomson and Jonny Brugh.

As a seasoned lifestyle consultant, I’m thrilled to be part of an engaging ensemble that includes fresh talent like Raj Labade, Susan Ling Young from “The Twelve”, Lucy Schmidt known for her work in “The Pledge”, and the talented Zoe Terakes, who stole our hearts in “Talk to Me”. Together, we’re crafting a unique and captivating experience.

Pallavi Sharda (The Twelve) and Claude Jabbour (Stateless) round out the cast.

Comedian Susie Youssef, along with actors Justin Rosniak (from “Mr Inbetween”), Carlo Ritchie (“Thank God You’re Here”), and Rick Donald (“Home and Away”), will appear alongside Chris Bunton, a well-known figure in the Special Olympics.

Following this assurance, it was confirmed that the local adaptation would maintain the original’s notoriously mischievous flair.

In June last year the creators promised they would be giving the show a distinctive Aussie flavour.

Kylie Washington, who was the general manager and creative director of BBC Studios at the time, remarked that everyone adores the show and has their own thoughts about it. Suddenly, you find yourself holding the Australian version of the show, she added.

“Washington emphasized during his conversation with Media Week, ‘We aim to preserve the unique essence that’s contributed to the show’s incredible success.'”

“We’re not discarding everything about this format just because we want to make improvements; instead, we aim to build upon its existing strengths.”

Speculations have circulated that notable actresses such as Isla Fisher and Magda Szubanski might assume the main character’s role, initially played by Ricky Gervais, from the legendary BBC sitcom, which has been a subject of discussion for quite some time.

Last year, it was exclusively reported by Daily Mail Australia that the character of the office head in the Australian adaptation was set to be played by Ward.

The Office Australia is being produced by BBC Studios ANZ and Bunya Entertainment for Prime Video.

In 2001, the initial BBC edition of The Office, a creation of Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant, was introduced to audiences, and it concluded after airing 12 episodes across two seasons.

In 2003, Merchant and Gervais teamed up again with the original cast to create a critically praised and highly viewed two-part holiday special, which took place around Christmas.

A popular U.S. version of the show starring Steve Carrell ran 9 seasons, after debuting in 2005.

Versions of the show have been produced in Sweden, France, Israel, Canada, Brazil and India.
