People online were shocked to discover that the logo resembles Odysseus from Greek mythology. One user exclaimed, “I just realized this is Odysseus!” while another said they hadn’t understood the meaning of the logo after decades.
Someone else confessed they’d known about the card for years but never realized it was a reference to The Odyssey, admitting, “I feel silly now.”
One person exclaimed in surprise, questioning if the animated show was based on ‘Ulysses.’ Another commenter jokingly described themselves as new to everything, saying they felt like a beginner who had just started learning about the world on Wednesday.
The team explained that when they designed the logo in 2014, they aimed to combine elements of ancient Greek stories with the challenges of funding a film.
Robert Seelig, a partner at TSG Entertainment, explained that the logo’s design came about through collaboration (according to the New York Times). He said that after successfully closing a challenging deal, they decided it deserved to be represented in the logo.
Since its release last week, The Odyssey has been a massive success, marking the biggest global opening weekend of director Nolan’s career. It’s also tied for his highest-rated film on Rotten Tomatoes.
