The Odyssey Officially Confirms Tom Holland & Anne Hathaway Roles (& Shuts Down a Huge Mia Goth Theory)

We’re getting more details about Christopher Nolan’s next film. This action-packed movie is his latest project after the Oscar-winning Oppenheimer, and it features a cast full of famous actors, as you’d expect.

The highly anticipated film, The Odyssey, based on the classic story by Homer, will bring together actor , playing Odysseus, and Anne Hathaway. Recent photos published in Empire Magazine have officially confirmed the cast, including Hathaway, Tom Holland, and Mia Goth. While Holland and Hathaway were previously rumored to be involved, Goth’s casting is a new and unexpected addition.

The new action movie will tell the story of Damon’s character, Odysseus, returning home, but fans already knew about him. People were more curious about who would play the other roles in the film’s large cast. Recently released photos have now confirmed who will play Odysseus’ wife and queen, a role that was speculated about earlier this summer.

The photos prove the rumors are true: the Spider-Man actor is indeed playing Telemachus, Odysseus’ son.

The biggest surprise came with Mia Goth’s character. She was a recent addition to the cast, and while the director didn’t reveal her role, many thought she would play Circe, a powerful enchantress known for turning men into animals. But newly released photos confirm she’s actually playing Melantho, one of the palace maids.

I’m so excited for this new movie! The cast is absolutely incredible – alongside the leads, they’ve brought in Zendaya, Robert Pattinson, Jon Bernthal, John Leguizamo, Elliot Page, Himesh Patel, Samantha Morton, Corey Hawkins, Cosmo Jarvis, and Ryan Hurst. And that’s not all! Bill Irwin, Jesse Garcia, Will Yun Lee, Rafi Gavron, Shiloh Fernandez, Nick E. Tarabay, Jimmy Gonzales, Maurice Compte, Michael Vlamis, Iddo Goldberg, and Josh Stewart are all part of it too. It’s going to be amazing!

Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey Will Make History

Both the director and Damon discussed the new movie with the media, revealing it will be released next summer and includes innovative elements never before seen on film. Nolan’s latest project is groundbreaking – it’s the first of its kind – and the production used an incredible two million feet of film.

Damon described the movie as everything you’d hope for in a summer blockbuster, and personally called it the highlight of his career.

The film centers on Odysseus’s long journey home, and the actor highlighted the complexity of the character. He was particularly drawn to the opening line of Emily Wilson’s translation – ‘Tell me about a complicated man’ – and emphasized Odysseus’s intelligence, resourcefulness, and strategic thinking, noting he’s much more than just a warrior; he’s incredibly clever and cunning.

The Odyssey premieres in theaters on July 17, 2026.
