The NIL program is working for the WWE

As a long-time gamer and avid follower of professional wrestling, I can’t help but be excited about the recent developments in college sports and the impact they’ve had on organizations like WWE. The Name, Image, and Likeness (NIL) program has opened up new opportunities for college athletes to monetize their brand and build a career outside of traditional sports.

College athletes now hold significant value due to their Name, Image, and Likeness. The introduction of the NIL (Name, Image, and Likeness) program has given these athletes an opportunity to profit from the billion-dollar college sports industry for the first time. WWE has seized this development, launching its own WWE NIL (Next in Line) program to discover and nurture upcoming talents. As it enters its third year, the NIL program can be considered a resounding success.

On December 2, 2021, the WWE New Initiative (NIL) program was introduced with Gable Steveson being the first recipient of an agreement on September 9th. Since then, a total of four classes have joined the program. Among these newcomers, WWE has discovered promising talents who could potentially support the company’s growth for years to come.

In the initial session of 2021, there was a participant named Isaac Odugbesan, more commonly recognized as Oba Femi. He currently holds the WWE NXT North American Championship title. Oba Femi’s distinctive appearance, charisma, captivating persona, and burgeoning wrestling skills have piqued the interest of many, leading them to speculate that he could potentially headline a WrestleMania event in the future.

After shifting their recruitment strategy towards hiring ex-collegiate athletes and transforming them into sports entertainers, WWE has discovered a successful approach. This method has led them to find talented individuals such as Tiffany Stratton, Sol Ruca, and Bron Breakker. These performers had previously attempted to establish themselves in other sports but ultimately joined professional wrestling due to unsuccessful attempts. While some fans might criticize this approach, preferring that their favorite wrestlers honed their skills through the independent circuit, it cannot be denied that WWE’s new strategy is yielding positive results for their organization.

As a dedicated gamer following WWE, I’m eagerly anticipating what the main event scene will bring us in the next five years. WWE seems to be taking a strategic approach in the free agent market, opting not to sign every big name that comes along. Instead, they’re focusing on nurturing new talent from within their ranks.
