Spy thriller fans are eagerly awaiting the premiere of The Night Manager Season 2, and there’s more good news! Director Georgi Banks-Davies recently shared that Season 2, debuting on Prime Video January 11th, isn’t the end of the story based on John le Carré’s work. A third season of The Night Manager may be coming in the near future.
For fans of the show, this is huge news. The first season came out in 2016, and now, nearly a decade later, Tom Hiddleston – a major star from the Marvel Cinematic Universe – is returning as the charming hotel manager with a military background. While it’s great to have him back, such a long wait between seasons is unusual, especially given how popular and well-received the first season was.
In a recent interview with Variety, director Susanna Banks-Davies discussed the second season of the show (which has already launched on BBC One and BBC iPlayer in the U.K.). She admitted feeling both pressure and creative freedom, and expressed her excitement about being involved. Banks-Davies also hinted that the story of Jonathan Pine isn’t over, as writer David Farr is already developing a third season.
We always intended to have a third season, and David is currently writing it. He’s just getting started, but the plan was always to create a three-part series. You can enjoy the show as a complete story on its own, or as the middle part of a larger trilogy.
What Is ‘The Night Manager’ Season 2 About?

Prime Video
In season two of The Night Manager, Tom Hiddleston returns as Jonathan Pine, this time going by the name Alex Goodwin. He’s now leading a London-based operation focused on gathering information about dangerous criminals. The new season follows Pine as he attempts to infiltrate a powerful South American organization and use his skills to bring down a ruthless crime boss.

While Season 1 followed the plot of John le Carré’s novel, Season 2 isn’t based on a published book. Instead, the show’s creator, David Farr, wrote completely new material, and the director had the challenge of building upon le Carré’s world for the first time beyond his existing stories.
There’s still a lot of uncertainty surrounding this. However, those involved have been very careful in their approach, and John le Carré knew about it before his death.
He fully supported the project and encouraged them to move forward. We also brought back the same writer from Season 1, David Farr, who is a huge fan of John le Carré and really understands his style and world. I believe you have to trust that the core of this project – and the family’s involvement – ensures it stays true to le Carré’s vision and wouldn’t do anything to dishonor his intentions.
