Okay, so I just finished watching the first episode of The Night Manager season two, and wow! Apparently, it’s smashed all sorts of BBC viewing records – like, the biggest debut for a BBC drama in ages! Everyone’s talking about how many people tuned in for the premiere, and honestly, it totally lived up to the hype.
The first episode of the new season, which premiered on January 1st on BBC One and iPlayer, reached 8.7 million viewers in its first 28 days.
This spy thriller has become the BBC’s biggest new drama launch since the second season of Vigil premiered in 2023, according to Radio Times.
What to Read Next
First shown in 2016, The Night Manager centers on Jonathan Pine (Tom Hiddleston), who manages a high-end hotel. He used to be a soldier and is approached by Angela Burr (Olivia Colman), a manager at the Foreign Office, to help with a secret operation.
In season two, Tom Hiddleston returns as Pine, now working as an MI6 agent. He’s sent on a dangerous undercover mission to expose an arms dealing network and investigate Teddy Dos Santos, a powerful Colombian warlord played by Diego Calva.
Fans of the show are celebrating after Tom Hiddleston announced it will return for a third season.

He shared that there will be more seasons to come. They originally planned the second season as the start of a larger, 12-episode story, which allowed them to explore more possibilities for where the story could go, knowing they had future seasons available.
“We like trilogies. There’s something satisfying about trilogies, narratively.”
Hiddleston also discussed a major surprise from the second season: the unexpected return of Hugh Laurie’s character, Richard ‘Dickie’ Roper, who was previously believed to be dead.

Hiddleston explained that the character he plays is incredibly fortunate – benefiting from privilege and all the freedoms Britain offers – yet still makes a calculating and manipulative choice. Despite this, the actor himself is known for being charismatic and likable, making the contrast interesting.
The exciting part is seeing Hugh Laurie, who the audience loves, return as Richard Roper. The new storyline sets up a compelling confrontation between these two characters, and that’s what makes it so thrilling.
The Night Manager can be streamed on BBC iPlayer.
