The Night Agent star announced for new true crime drama
As a fan of gripping stories that delve deep into the human spirit and resilience, I am absolutely thrilled to hear about DB Woodside joining the cast of BET+’s “Fighting To Be Me: The Dwen Curry Story”. This series promises to be an enthralling journey, with its blend of glitz, glamour, and gangster moves that will undoubtedly keep us on the edge of our seats.
Actor DB Woodside, known from “The Night Agent,” has been confirmed for the cast of the upcoming true-crime series titled “Fighting To Be Me: The Dwen Curry Story.
The forthcoming BET+ show features Dyllón Burnside from “Pose” and AJ Johnson known for “Baby Boy.” This series narrates the tale of Dwen Curry, a renowned celebrity stylist, who covertly constructed a criminal network by means of deception.
The show chronicles a character (portrayed by Burnside), originally from Detroit, as he relocates to Oakland, California during the 1990s. He battles and triumphs over deep-seated depression, contemplations of suicide, and substance abuse issues.
The synopsis reveals (as reported by Deadline) that there, he achieves triumph in his role as a salon proprietor and hairstylist for celebrities such as LisaRaye McCoy, Mariah Carey, YoYo, Missy Elliot, DMX, among others.
Propelled by his ambition for an opulent existence and his compassion for those near him, Dwen maintains a clandestine identity as the brains behind a covert crime syndicate, the Gay Gangsters. This enigmatic figure amasses vast fortunes through deceitful schemes, primarily fraud.
Dwen’s life becomes further entangled due to her grappling with her sexuality, personal identity, and self-acceptance as she transitions from identifying as a gay man to embracing herself as transgender. Subsequently, her rise to fame is marred when she is found guilty of wire fraud and serves time in prison.
The series portrays an inspiring journey of self-discovery, where Dwen navigates through a world filled with luxury, showbiz, and underworld tactics. We follow her struggles and ultimate victories, not just for survival, but for standing firm in her genuine identity.
In the role of director for the series is Joe Carroll. The genuine Curry takes on a producer role, joining forces with Judge Greg Mathis, Donte Lee, and Delece James in their capacities as executive producers.
As the gamer you might recognize me from my role as Erik Monks in The Night Agent, but I’ve also made appearances on shows like 9-1-1: Lone Star, Suits, 24, and even Lucifer.
Fighting To Be Me: The Dwen Curry Story will air on BET+.
