Season 3 of The Night Agent is now streaming on Netflix, and even though fewer people are watching compared to Season 2, it’s still popular with subscribers. The last season brought back the main characters, Peter (Gabriel Basso) and Rose (Luciane Buchanan), who teamed up to stop a terrorist. This showed Rose was capable of more than just working at a computer, but some viewers didn’t find that storyline believable.
Rather than finding a believable way to include Rose in the story alongside Peter, the show simply removed her character for Season 3. While her exit was hinted at in the Season 2 finale – Peter feared their connection would jeopardize his work and put Rose in danger – it felt like a missed opportunity. It’s understandable Rose would want to start a new life, but this wasn’t the best way to handle her character. She was crucial to the show’s success in the first season and too important to Peter for him to let her go without a stronger story.
Rose Was Completely Written Out of ‘The Night Agent’ Season 3

Season 2 of The Night Agent delivered another thrilling ride, keeping up the show’s fast pace and featuring a strong cast. This season highlighted both Peter’s skills as an agent and Rose’s impressive computer abilities, but it also thrust Rose into dangerous, hands-on missions she wasn’t entirely comfortable with, even though she often volunteered. Rose found herself deeply involved in situations far beyond what the FBI would ever permit for a civilian, constantly putting herself in danger and breaking all the rules. However, some viewers found her behavior demanding and a bit of a distraction.
However, many viewers felt Rose truly shined in Season 2, consistently stepping up to assist Peter and the FBI with their operations. She handled every challenge – whether it involved hacking or infiltrating high-society events – with remarkable skill, which is why her removal from the show sparked so much debate.
Rose Is Essential to ‘The Night Agent’

Although Rose doesn’t appear in Season 3, she’s frequently talked about. We learn Peter is still hung up on her when he tells Isabel this during a game of pool. The most emotional scene comes when Peter tries to redirect his death benefits to Rose, only to be told it can only go to a family member – or a spouse. While Rose’s absence does help Peter grow and open up to people like Isabel and Chelsea, it felt like a mistake to downplay how important she was in the first two seasons.
However, Rose’s departure isn’t necessarily permanent. According to creator and showrunner Shawn Ryan, characters can easily rejoin the show, as seen with Chelsea, who had a small part in season two but a significant role in season three. Ryan hopes to keep the door open for Rose to return if the opportunity arises. He told The Hollywood Reporter that he wants to allow for that possibility.

Bringing Rose back for Season 4 of The Night Agent would be a more satisfying resolution than simply writing her out of Peter’s life, especially after developing their relationship so thoroughly. The ending of Season 3 made it clear that Peter deserves a more fulfilling personal life.
As a big fan of the show, I always felt Rose was incredibly important – one of the few people Peter genuinely loved and trusted. It really hurt to see her gone, even if I understood the reasons. The writers said removing her helped focus on Peter’s story and made some viewers happy who didn’t connect with her character. But honestly, I think they overlooked just how much she contributed to the show’s success, and more importantly, how vital she was to Peter himself. It’s easy to see Peter as just this super-agent, but he’s a person too, and that person genuinely needs Rose. The agent can function without her, sure, but it’s Peter, the man, who’s really affected by her absence.
