While the show might seem recent, its first season actually premiered back in 2023 and quickly became a hit with viewers. Now that Season 2 has finished, Netflix is considering spin-offs to expand the world of the series.
Switching from Sony Television Studios to Netflix has given the show’s creator, Shawn Ryan, more opportunities to expand the series and explore potential spin-offs. There’s been talk about this possibility for about three years, but so far, no new developments have materialized.
However, things could be different soon, as Ryan recently hinted in an interview with Deadline.
“There’s been chatter,” he said.
That initial news was exciting for fans of The Night Agent, but Ryan wanted to clarify that reports about future plans or casting decisions are inaccurate. He stated, “There was never any casting process or anything like that happening. There’s nothing in development right now.”
Right now, Ryan isn’t thinking about any potential spin-offs of The Night Agent. He’s focused on the original show, which is still very popular with both viewers and critics – it has an 80% rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
Ryan said he’s currently focused on renewing the show for a fourth season, and will consider other options once that’s secured.
The Night Agent Is Authentic In Ways Most Haven’t Considered
Gabriel Basso plays Peter Sutherland in the thrilling new spy series, The Night Agent, which is based on Matthew Quirk’s popular novel. Basso and his co-stars, Luciana Buchanan (as Rachel Larkin) and Brittany Snow (as Alice), are caught up in a dangerous and fast-paced adventure, and even performed many of their own stunts to make the show feel more realistic.
.
According to stonemason Ivan Basso, he performed all the physical stunts in the film, including the fighting and running. The only things he needed a substitute, Matt, to handle were falls and being hit by a car. Basso didn’t receive any special training for the role, as he’s been actively involved in martial arts since childhood. He regularly boxes, practices Muay Thai and kickboxing, and is newer to grappling, but has experience with wrestling, jiu-jitsu, and mixed martial arts.
Buchanan shared with Deadline that she even did some stunts on set, which worried people watching. She also expressed her surprise at the massive success of The Night Agent on Netflix, saying, “I absolutely didn’t see that coming. The show really took off!”
And yet it has, with Season 3 set to arrive on Netflix on Feb. 19, and to hopefully follow.
