The nepo babies who have come into their own on Lord Of The Flies: Stars of the BBC ‘masterpiece’ have some surprising showbiz connections

Viewers are calling the BBC’s adaptation of Lord of the Flies a ‘masterpiece,’ particularly praising the outstanding performances from the young actors.

The new series, based on William Golding’s 1954 novel and adapted by Jack Thorne, who also co-created the show Adolescence, premiered last Sunday, February 8th.

After a plane crash, a group of schoolboys find themselves alone on a deserted island, forced to survive and try to create some order.

Oh, it’s just heartbreaking to watch! It all begins with young Jack – Lox Pratt plays him perfectly, by the way – and this…obsession he gets with hunting. It’s not just a hobby, it’s like something takes over him, and that’s when everything starts to unravel. Seriously, it’s the turning point, the moment everything goes wrong. You can see the order just…crumbling before your eyes!

Casting directors Nina Gold and Martin Ware reviewed nearly 7,000 boys after reaching out to over 1,000 schools.

Writer Jack said finding a large group of actors aged 10-13 was a major concern, so they also used social media to search for talent.

The series features thirty young actors, most of whom are new to the industry, but a few come from families with experience in show business.

The Daily Mail highlights the up-and-coming stars with famous parents who are featured in the new BBC series.

Noah and Cassius Flemyng – the twin sons of Jason Flemyng

Noah and Cassius play twin brothers, Sam and Eric, in the show. The book treats them as a single unit, often calling them ‘Samneric’.

The roles are played by identical twin brothers, Noah and Cassius, whose parents are actor Jason Flemyng and his wife, Elly Fairman.

Jason is famous for his roles in the Guy Ritchie films Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels (1998) and Snatch (2000).

He’s also been in several Hollywood movies, such as The Curious Case of Benjamin Button (2008), Kick-Ass (2010), and X-Men: First Class (2011).

He’s recently been in a number of television series, such as Prime Target (AppleTV+), Trigger Point (ITV), and The Famous Five (BBC).

Cornelius Brandreth – grandson of Gyles Brandreth

Cornelius Brandreth has been cast as Maurice, a choirboy who becomes a member of Jack’s tribe.

The young actor comes from a well-known family. His grandfather is Gyles Brandreth, a popular television personality, and his father, Benet Brandreth, is a successful lawyer.

Cornelius shared the news on social media, excitedly announcing he’d been cast as Maurice in the BBC’s adaptation of Lord of the Flies!

It’s surreal! I was actually studying this novel in school when I saw the announcement for auditions… and now I’m here! We’re currently filming in Malaysia, and it’s been an incredible experience so far.

I’ve had the pleasure of working with some truly wonderful and gifted people. I’m excited for you to finally see what we’ve created – it’s going to be amazing, so keep an eye out for updates!

Winston Sawyers – son of Patrick Sawyers

Winston Sawyers stars as Ralph on the show, one of the lead roles.

He is the son of actor Parker Sawyers, who is known for his roles in films such as Southside With You (2016), where he portrayed a young Barack Obama, and Monsoon (2018).

In addition to his other work, he’s a main cast member on the drama series P-Valley and had a role in the BBC One show about the Pan Am 103 bombing.

Winston lives in London with his wife and their two children.
