The multi-million pound homes celebs can’t sell: Lily Allen and Helen Flanagan among the stars forced to slash property prices

The rising cost of living is affecting everyone, even celebrities, with many now having to lower the prices of their expensive homes.

Several celebrities, including Helen Flanagan, Paddy McGuinness, and Lily Allen, are currently finding it difficult to sell their homes.

Many famous celebrities who own large, expensive homes are finding it takes a year, or even longer, to sell them.

Here, we look at all the multi-million pound homes celebs just can’t shift.

Lily Allen and David Harbour

Following accusations of infidelity against actor David Harbour, the couple listed their New York townhouse for sale in October with an asking price of $7.95 million.

It’s unclear how much money Lily will receive from the property sale, as David appears to have purchased the four-story, five-bedroom house entirely on his own. The transaction was handled by his manager, Anthony Bonsignore.

And it’s also saddled with a mortgage for $2.5million with City National Bank.

Lily recently revealed in an interview that she’s been facing financial difficulties since her separation from David. She explained that a year and a half ago, she wasn’t worried about work or money, but now she needs to work to support herself.

Paddy McGuinness

Since divorcing his wife, Christine, the couple are eager to sell their large seven-bedroom house in Prestbury, a popular area in Cheshire known for its celebrity residents.

They put it on the market for £6.5million in March.

Paddy is currently living with Christine and their three children, and they’re dividing the house into separate living spaces while they navigate a difficult divorce.

The price hasn’t changed, but unfortunately, we haven’t received any interest yet. It’s not looking promising, as they say.

Helen Flanagan

The actress, known for her role on Coronation Street, has had to lower the asking price of her home by about 33% since she first listed it for sale in May.

Helen is sadly selling her beautiful six-bedroom house for £1.5 million because she’s facing money problems.

The price was first lowered to £1.195 million after four weeks to encourage a fast sale. It was then reduced again in September to £995,000, which was less than a third of the original asking price.

A lucky buyer will get a great deal on this spacious three-story home in a charming village near Bolton. It features six bathrooms, a double garage, and a large garden.

The agent describes the 5,000-square-foot house as a stunning and well-maintained home perfect for a family.

Honestly, it was shocking to hear Helen talk about money troubles in court. After doing so well on Coronation Street and then having success with reality TV, I was surprised she said she was ‘really struggling financially’ following her split from Scott. It just seemed… unexpected, given how much she’s earned over the years.

Ellen DeGeneres

I was so fascinated to hear that Ellen DeGeneres left Hollywood and moved to the Cotswolds! She actually said Donald Trump’s re-election was a big part of her decision to leave the US. Now she’s living in the most adorable farmhouse, set on 43 acres just outside this lovely little village called Asthall. It sounds like a dream!

With seven bedrooms, seven bathrooms, a five-car garage, a helipad, and even a dedicated party barn, this property has everything you could want!

Yet it appears that Ellen and wife Portia de Rossi didn’t fully do their homework.

The property was bought for £15 million in June 2024, but recent storms caused significant flooding on the land, which is located near a major branch of the River Thames.

They’ve relocated to higher ground and are attempting to sell their country estate for £22.5 million, hoping to make a profit.

Andy Carroll and Billi Mucklow

They listed their house for sale in October for £8 million after a previous, higher offer didn’t work out. This came after they separated.

The couple, who are separated, had already found someone to buy their impressive six-bedroom house in Essex – a property formerly owned by Sir Rod Stewart.

They were about to make a huge profit on the house they bought six years ago from a famous singer for £4.1 million.

Oh my god, I heard they actually had a deal in June for £8.5 million! Can you believe it? That would have meant a profit of £4.4 million! And finally, finally, Andy and his ex could just move on with their lives – everyone’s been talking about the rumors that he cheated, and this would have put all of that behind them. I’m just so invested in their story, it’s crazy!

They had to accept a price £500,000 lower than originally agreed upon, and they’re hoping for a better outcome next year.

Spencer Matthews and Vogue Williams

It’s tough to see the popular TV couple’s fancy apartment sat empty for over two years – no one was buying it.

The couple first listed their £5.25 million duplex in Battersea, southwest London, for sale in October 2023, using the upscale estate agents Knight Frank.

After seeing little interest, they moved the sale to Sotheby’s and have since lowered the price twice, first to £4.7 million and then to £3.95 million, in hopes of finding a buyer.

Just a few weeks ago, Vogue revealed it had finally been sold.

Jamie and Rebekah Vardy

After the soccer player transferred to an Italian team this summer, he and his partner decided to sell their stylish villa in Portugal’s Algarve region for €11.5 million.

The property hit the market in June and overlooks the posh Quinta do Lago North golf course.

This property features six bedrooms, nine bathrooms, a roof terrace, a gym, a spa, a home cinema, and a stunning pool.

To make your vacation as relaxing as possible, this resort offers a convenient elevator that takes you directly from the pool to your bedroom.

Gino D’Acampo

The popular TV chef’s businesses have been hit hard since Covid with some going bust.

In June, he decided to sell one of his properties: a seven-bedroom Georgian house with historical status, located in Hoddeson, Hertfordshire, and priced at £2.45 million.

The property features seven bedrooms, six bathrooms, a basement, and a sunroom, and is being marketed by Savills.

The current owners have carefully and creatively restored the house, resulting in a beautiful and remarkable home.

I absolutely adore the character of this home! It’s full of beautiful details you just don’t find anymore. Eight of the rooms have fireplaces, which is incredible, and the ceilings are so high with these lovely rose decorations. The original cornices are so ornate and detailed, and the large windows, with their shutters, let in the most amazing natural light. It really feels like stepping back in time.

Alan Titchmarsh

The popular TV gardener is leaving his country home after 23 years. He’s decided to move to a smaller place because maintaining the large garden has become difficult as he’s gotten older.

The Grade II-listed home is situated in Hampshire, in a stunning countryside location.

However, the property’s four acres have become too much for Alan to manage. He recently shared that, as he gets older, he doesn’t want the large yard to become a burden.

This historic property, originally built in 1690, was listed for sale in September for £3.95 million. It includes five bedrooms, three bathrooms, and a large barn perfect for entertaining.

Savills’ listing details a vaulted 16th-century wine cellar located beneath the dining room, perfect for wine enthusiasts.

Alan and his wife, Alison, are downsizing to a more contemporary home with a 1.5-acre garden. Alan wasn’t entirely sure about the move and considered the pros and cons for a while.

In an article for BBC Gardener’s World, he noted it’s often suggested that people as we get older should simplify their lives – and he was starting to do just that.

We weren’t looking to move at all. After putting so much effort and love into restoring a house and creating a garden, leaving it behind would be really difficult.

Even though I’m not quite ready to admit I’m getting older, I do find myself thinking about the future – and I hope it will be a long and happy one.

The late Paul O’Grady

Andre Portasio, the husband of the late comedian, has been struggling to sell their beautiful country home in Kent.

Paul, famous for playing the character Lily Savage, lived in a house called Knoll Hill House near Ashford from 1999 until he passed away in March 2023 at the age of 67. After his death, his husband became the owner of the property.

The large estate was first listed for £3.5 million in September of last year, but it didn’t attract much buyer interest. As a result, the price was lowered to £2.65 million in January, and then again to £2.4 million in July.

This property sits on a large 20-acre lot and offers beautiful views of the Romney Marsh in Kent. It has a charming, storybook quality, once likened to a house from an Enid Blyton novel by the late Brendan Murphy, partner of the previous owner.

The property is now on for around a third less than 15 months ago.
