The moving way Jett Kenny and girlfriend Lily Brown are paying tribute to his late sister Jaimi as they compete on The Amazing Race
As an avid fan, I find myself deeply moved by Jett Kenny’s heartfelt tribute to his late sister, Jaimi. It’s a testament to their unbreakable bond that he carried a portion of her ashes with him on The Amazing Race Australia: Celebrity Edition. This act of love and remembrance, inspired by his mother Lisa Curry, is truly unique and poignant.
In a recent disclosure, Jett Kenny shared that his deceased sister, Jaimi, was spiritually present during the filming of the latest season of The Amazing Race Australia: Celebrity Edition, alongside him and girlfriend Lily Brown.
Instead of carrying a piece of Jaimi’s ashes with them, they chose to spread it in fascinating destinations across the globe, where they had traveled together.
In 2020, Lisa Curry, Jett’s mother, initiated a memorial tribute following the passing of her daughter, Jaimi. She had previously scattered some of Jaimi’s ashes on Mount Kosciuszko and various other locations.
‘Jaimi was with us the whole time,’ Jett explained to the Daily Telegraph.
He mentioned that the idea originated from his mother, which turned out to be quite interesting. Whenever she travels, she carries a portion of Jaimi’s ashes and scatters them across various places globally.
‘Having her in our backpacks meant she went to a few more places she’s never been before.’
Lily chimed in: ‘It was like she was our guardian angel’.
In September 2020, Jett’s life was dramatically altered as Jaimi, aged 33, passed away. This unfortunate event occurred due to her ongoing struggles with alcoholism and an eating disorder.
Although his mother Lisa, an Olympian, frequently shares about her mental health experiences on social media platforms, Jett tends to keep his own struggles in this area more personal and away from public view.
Previously, the SAS Australia star shared with The Daily Telegraph that they handle grief differently than their mother does. As a parent, it’s something one would hope never to experience.
Jett, son of Ironman Grant Kenny, expressed that he manages his sorrow by viewing his unfortunate event as a normal aspect of life, and repeatedly affirming to himself that such events indeed occur.
He mentioned that there are certain periods when some days can be more challenging than others, particularly around birthdays, Easter, and Christmas.
On September 16, 2020, the Kenny-Curry family shared the sad news of Jaimi’s passing via their social media accounts, announcing it a day after her demise.
‘Lisa Curry shared that our beloved daughter Jaimi sadly succumbed to a prolonged health issue and passed away tranquilly in the hospital this morning, surrounded by her caring family.’
In the year 2021, I found myself sharing some personal insights on HIT Queensland’s Breakfast with Cliffo & Gabi. During that time, Jaimi, who appeared to be thriving, was privately battling with her mental wellness.
‘It’s behind closed doors [people struggle], it’s not really a public conversation. It was the same for our family,’ he said.
In public, Jaimi appeared cheerful as a sunny day with rainbows, yet beneath this facade lurked ominous clouds and impending storms. He acknowledged that it was challenging because the full depth of the situation wasn’t fully comprehended.
In essence, no matter how much effort you put into helping someone, ultimately their progress depends on their own will to change. It’s a regrettable circumstance.
