Spoilers ahead for The Morning Show Season 4 so far.
Like most streaming services, Apple TV+ has its popular shows, and The Morning Show is a standout for many subscribers. Currently in its fourth season, the drama recently said goodbye to a major character. In the latest episode, “If Then,” Greta Lee’s Stella Bak left the show, and both the show’s creator and Lee have confirmed this was her last appearance. Honestly, it was a surprising decision.
Season four of The Morning Show has been full of surprises, especially with the arrival of Marion Cotillard as Celine. She quickly became entangled in the show’s conflicts when it was revealed she was having an affair with Stella’s husband. Charlotte Stoudt, the showrunner, recently explained to The Hollywood Reporter why the character of Lee has permanently left the series.
I found Stella fascinating because she came up in the tech world believing technology could be a powerful tool for self-improvement. But what happens when technology starts making us question our identities and whether we’re living the lives we should be?
Throughout the fourth season, Stella pinned all her hopes on a single project: UBN’s coverage of the Olympics, powered by an AI chatbot meant to let Alex broadcast in any language. Sadly, the project failed, and the fallout dramatically impacted both her career and personal life, all playing out publicly. It was incredibly awkward to watch, and I’m still reeling from it, especially the revelation of her affair with Miles.

Following a major upheaval in her life, Stella attempted to persuade Miles to move to Naples with her and commit to a relationship. Although he initially agreed, the final scene shows Stella boarding the plane by herself. It’s a heartbreaking conclusion, particularly as it appears she won’t be returning to the Apple TV+ series. The creator, Stoudt, later discussed the difficulty of letting go of the character, stating:
Filming Stella’s final scene was incredibly emotional – even talking about it now makes me tear up. It was difficult saying goodbye to her, even though the story needed her to embark on a journey of self-discovery that couldn’t happen while she was still at UBN. She needed to take that flight alone. When you’re facing a major life change, others can offer support, but ultimately, you have to navigate it on your own.
I was really surprised to learn that Greta Lee won’t be returning to The Morning Show after the recent episode – the showrunner’s comments were shocking! I love Stella, so I’m really disappointed. Still, there’s a chance she could come back someday, since Claire recently rejoined the show after a long absence.
Lee discussed leaving the Emmy-nominated show, explaining that her character, Stella, played a major role in the fourth season. She went on to say:
It’s hard to believe, but this is it – the final chapter for this character. It’s a really emotional moment, especially after spending so much time with them. I’ve known for a while, and I kept quiet to avoid spoilers, but this is definitely her farewell.
It appears Lee isn’t upset about what happened to her character, Stella, on The Morning Show – though many viewers, like me, were really surprised! She apparently knew this storyline was coming, so it wasn’t unexpected for her. Plus, with Greta Lee having several new film projects lined up, including Tron: Ares, leaving the show might give her more time to focus on movies.
New episodes of The Morning Show are released on Wednesdays on Apple TV+, and there are four episodes left in the current season. With so much still to come, almost anything is possible – except for Stella returning to UBN.
