The MongolZ win Counter-Strike 2 EWC 2025, defeat Vitality on the way

The CS2 Esports World Cup 2025 delivered quite a few unexpected outcomes; however, the victory of The MongolZ wasn’t among them. Given their outstanding competitive performance throughout the year, their triumph in the tournament seems like a natural progression.

At the Esports World Cup 2025 (EWC 2025), the excitement surrounding Counter-Strike 2 (CS2) tournament was palpable, not just for the players, but also for the spectators. The sixteen teams engaged in a rollercoaster ride of single-elimination games, with all matches scheduled over a thrilling five-day span.

In this setting, MongolZ flourished spectacularly! They not only clinched the top prize, but they also vanquished one of their formidable rivals, Team Vitality, along their victorious journey.

This triumph represents a significant milestone for The MongolZ, as prior to the CS2 EWC 2025, they had only secured one victory in an elite-level tournament – the YaLLa Compass 2024.

Easy run?

In the structure of the CS2 Esports World Cup 2025, the initial matches tend to pit top-tier teams against lower-ranked ones, with higher seeds playing against lower seeds. In their first two games, MongolZ encountered GamerLegion and 3DMAX.

Indeed, there aren’t any straightforward matches at this tier of Counter-Strike esports! Contrary to expectations, underdogs 3DMAX managed to pull off a victory against the favorite team, NAVI, during their debut game.

For The MongolZ, those were two victorious days, even if they lost game 2 versus 3DMAX.

The downfall of Vitality.

In the semifinals of CS:2 EWC 2025, The MongolZ encountered a particularly tough match against Vitality. This formidable team had been ruthless in their wins against opponents throughout the first half of 2025, amassing an impressive tournament winning streak.

On several occasions, it was crucial for Vitality to keep The MongolZ from winning major titles. This principle held true at the BLAST.tv Austin Major 2025, as Vitality emerged victorious against The MongolZ during the championship match.

As a dedicated fan, I must say, this time around, things took an unexpected turn! In the second game on Dust II, Vitality managed to secure a victory, but unfortunately, our luck ran out on Nuke. In the initial half, we faced some tough challenges, with The MongolZ dominating us by a significant 10:2 scoreline.

In more casual and clear terms, many within the CS2 community had predicted the decline of Team Vitality due to apEX’s aggressive verbal exchanges. However, following their victory at the Austin Major, Team Vitality has struggled to attain major triumphs.

  • They lost to MOUZ at IEM Cologne 2025.
  • The MongolZ defeated Team Vitality with 2:0 at BLAST Bounty Fall 2025.

Fail of Spirit. Rollercoaster of Falcons

As for big surprises, the CS2 EWC 2025 treated us to a few.

  • NAVI got their second bitter loss. Previously, Astralis defeated Natus Vincere at BLAST Bounty Fall 2025. Now, this happened in the match versus 3DMAX. NAVI performed a nice comeback to win game 1, but then, they fell apart. Losing 1:9 in the second half of Inferno was a disaster.

  • Team Spirit lost to HEROC in the opening match of the CS2 Esports World Cup 2025. The same roster celebrated victory at IEM Cologne 2025 and BLAST Bounty Fall 2025. Perhaps having only two days between tournaments is not a good idea.

  • Falcons are following their weird tradition of having great matches one day and then being destroyed to dust on the next one. They defeated MOUZ, which is a big deal considering how strong these opponents are. Then, Falcons lost in the semifinal to Aurora, which is rather unexpected (with full respect to Aurora).

Finals at the CS2 EWC 2025

The Esports World Cup 2025 featured 3rd-place matches for its tournaments, and CS2 is no exception.

team Falcons unexpectedly found their strong gameplay again and overcame Vitality, or is it that team Vitality’s struggles become more pronounced?

In the finale, The MongolZ squared off against Aurora Gaming. Aurora got off to a strong start and made it to overtime in game one, but they ultimately fell short. However, in games two and three, The MongolZ held the upper hand, securing their victory at the CS2 EWC 2025.

CS2 Esports continues to thrill with unexpected twists, setbacks, and amazing matchups! These exciting moments only heighten anticipation for the upcoming BLAST Open Fall 2025. Qualifiers begin closed from August 27 to September 1, followed by LAN Finals on September 5-7.
