Okay, so I’m super hyped for this match – it’s Vitality versus The MongolZ in the StarLadder Budapest Major 2025 quarterfinals! Honestly, both teams had a bit of a rough time getting here this season, but they struggled with different things, you know? It’s gonna be a good one.
As a big Vitality fan, it’s been tough to watch them slip from being absolutely unbeatable earlier in 2025 – they were winning everything – to just consistently placing in the top three or four at tournaments now. They’ve definitely lost that dominant edge they had.
MongolZ had a rough time and lost much of their previous momentum. After changing their lineup, the team is now finding it difficult to even make it into the top eight.
This quarterfinal match at the CS2 Major is about more than just reaching the semifinals. Team Vitality needs to show they’re serious contenders for the championship – they really can’t afford to lose to this team. For The MongolZ, a win would be a huge upset and a way to overcome the challenges they faced at the previous Austin event.

Okay, so I’m watching a Counter-Strike 2 match right now, and it’s a best-of-three. That means Vitality and The MongolZ need to win two maps to move on to the semifinals of the Budapest Major. If they lose, they’re eliminated – it’s that simple!
Rollercoaster of the Major and beyond
Before the major CS2 tournament in Budapest, Team Vitality showed some problems with teamwork in a couple of earlier competitions. These issues cost them the win at IEM Chengdu, and they later lost in the semifinals of BLAST Rivals Fall 2025.
Team Vitality managed to secure a tournament victory in the latter half of 2025, winning ESL Pro League Season 22.
As for the Major itself, we witnessed a bitter loss and three decent wins.
- FaZe Clan defeated Vitality in Round 1 of Stage 3. It was a Bo1 match on Nuke.
- Vitality defeated two underdogs after that, 3DMAX and B8. They faced one of the top teams as well — defeated NAVI in the advancement match.
Since winning the CS2 Esports World Cup in 2025, The MongolZ have been facing some challenges. They didn’t advance far in EPL Season 22 and were quickly eliminated from IEM Chengdu 2025. To add to this, Aurora defeated them at the Thunderpick World Championship 2025, avenging their loss in the World Cup.
At Stage 3 of the Budapest Major, The MongolZ followed a similar rollercoaster path as Vitality.

The championships in Budapest will conclude on December 14th, after quarterfinal winners compete for a place in the finals on December 13th.
