The MongolZ leave s1mple in their dust at the BLAST.tv Austin Major 2025
At the BLAST.tv Austin Major, FaZe Clan sparked excitement among the local spectators, while The MongolZ showcased their underdog spirit during the final quarterfinal matchup.
Thus far, the quarterfinals at the BLAST.tv Austin Major 2025 have been thrilling, but none have generated as much anticipation as FaZe Clan versus The MongolZ. The buzz from the crowd was deafening even before the series started, with the Moody Center’s roof seemingly on the verge of collapse. A defeat today would mean doom for either team, as elimination loomed large. In contrast, the victor would secure a place among the top 4 in the Austin Major.
Recently, FaZe Clan hasn’t been performing at their best. In an attempt to turn things around, they recruited Oleksandr “s1mple” Kostyljev to strengthen their squad. It’s been 900 days since s1mple last made it to a Major Playoff, so he needed to focus and deliver for FaZe Clan. Meanwhile, the Mongolian underdogs, MongolZ, were determined to challenge them. With a year full of top 4 finishes in 2025, MongolZ aimed to pull off an enormous upset by defeating the popular favorites.
Propelled by the thunderous roars from the spectators, both squads charged headlong into a thrilling sequence of intense Counter-Strike 2 gameplay.

The MongolZ silence the Austin Major crowds
In the first half of the match on Mirage, both teams showcased exceptional skill. Initially, FaZe took the lead, but MongolZ quickly responded, leading to an intense back-and-forth battle. By halftime, the score was tied at 6-6. However, in the second half, MongolZ began to dominate, winning six rounds consecutively. This momentum allowed them to take control of the map, and despite losing a few more rounds, they managed to hold on, securing Map 1 with a final score of 13-9.
Initially, the opening rounds of Anubis resembled those in Mirage, displaying breathtaking abilities from both sides. Yet, this time around, FaZe clawed a slender advantage as they moved into the second half, much to the delight of their supporters. The following rounds remained incredibly tight, with neither team showing an inch.
Unfortunately for FaZe Clan, they couldn’t establish a strong hold against MongolZ, leading to their eventual downfall. The Mongolian team delivered an outstanding performance, consistently flipping seemingly unfavorable situations and repelling the assaults of Finn “karrigan”, s1mple, Jonathan “EliGE”, and the rest of FaZe Clan. With a scoreline of 13-11, MongolZ claimed victory on Anubis, securing the series for themselves.
With that, FaZe departs from the BLAST.tv Austin Major 2025, delivering another underwhelming display. The MongolZ can rejoice today, yet they must replicate their form in the semifinals, as they square off against paiN Gaming. Both teams aim for a top 2 finish at the tournament.
On June 21st, the BLAST.tv Austin Major tournament carries on, featuring matchups between Team Vitality versus MOUZ, and The MongolZ battling it out with paiN Gaming.
