The MCU’s Young Avengers Team-Up Gets Disappointing Update From Star 3 Years Later

It looks like a new team within the Marvel Cinematic Universe might not deliver the exciting conclusion fans are hoping for.

Iman Vellani, known for her role as Ms. Marvel in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, discussed the possibility of a Young Avengers project during an appearance on the Revenge Of show. While she admitted she prefers the Champions storyline, she jokingly pointed out that the current cast of young heroes might not be considered ‘young’ by the time a Young Avengers adaptation actually happens.

The most recent mention of this storyline was at the end of the movie The Marvels in 2023, when Kamala Khan told Kate Bishop she was forming a team of young heroes. Since that quick scene, the Marvel Cinematic Universe hasn’t followed up on this idea.

As Vellani mentioned, the Young Avengers team in the comics is designed to feature teenage characters. However, many of the current members are nearing adulthood or are already in their twenties. While Kamala is currently a high school student, she’ll probably have graduated by the time we see her again.

Many people, including the star of Ms. Marvel, believe that reimagining the Champions team would fit better into the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s story. It’s currently unknown if Marvel Studios will move the Young Avengers characters to that team instead.

Kevin Feige, president of Marvel Studios, discussed the possibility of a Young Avengers spin-off series in July 2025. He explained that while it’s possible, the focus would be on finding the best story and team dynamics. He noted that seeing the Young Avengers interact with each other is key, but also exploring new combinations and interactions with other characters would be exciting.

Although a Young Avengers movie isn’t currently planned for the near future in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Marvel Studios is dedicated to wrapping up The Multiverse Saga in Phase 6. We might see these new heroes join forces in Phase 7, but it’s still uncertain.

Tom Holland will return as Spider-Man in the Marvel Cinematic Universe with the upcoming film, Spider-Man: Brand New Day, scheduled for release on July 31st. Following that, the next two Avengers movies will wrap up Phase 6 of the MCU, beginning with Doomsday on December 18th of this year, and concluding with Secret Wars on December 17, 2027.
