The Masked Singer Star’s Depression Meltdown: Inside Her Emotional Struggle
A well-known personality from Bravo has revealed that it wasn’t the drama-filled show “Vanderpump Rules” that caused her recent mental health issues; instead, it was an entirely distinct reality series that had this effect.
In a recent episode of her “Scheananigans” podcast, Scheana Shay revealed that she struggled with a deep depression for several months after making a brief appearance on Season 13 of “The Masked Singer.
Shay, aged 40, openly confessed, “I’ve been battling feelings of deep sadness for the past six months.” Initially, he attempted to hide these emotions and insist, “I’m okay. It’ll pass,” but his struggle began around the time of The Masked Singer.
Shay initially turned down the offer to compete on the show, saying she feared public humiliation.
She remembered saying, “I was invited for the performance, but my response was a firm ‘no way.’ Money wasn’t even a factor; I wouldn’t subject myself to more ridicule on live national television.
In the end, Shay overcame her doubts and participated in the contest using the persona of The Bat, dancing to Sabrina Carpenter’s Espresso. Regrettably, she was sent home after just the initial episode.

‘I totally had a meltdown in my trailer,’ she said.
‘I was thinking, “That’s exactly why I hesitated about joining the show. I don’t think I’m talented enough. I’ll be eliminated first. Now everyone will probably tease me.” I just wanted to give it a try.’
In my experience, I found myself avoiding the deep-rooted emotions within me and coping with my depression through self-adjustments in my medication regimen, all without the valuable input of a professional guide.
Shay said, “I thought about increasing my medication slightly, but then I’ve been grinding my teeth a lot at night.
Well, I plan on reducing my dosage again to 25 mg. Frankly, I think it’s too low for most people. I’ve realized this and currently take 75 mg, but I’m contemplating increasing it to 100 mg.
Eventually, Shay decided to consult professionals for assistance: “During that period, I managed to discuss my concerns with my psychiatrist and therapist. As the holiday season approached – Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year’s – there were devastating wildfires sweeping through Los Angeles.
Shay explained, “I went through a series of tough emotional periods. By March, the show was airing, and now I have to deal with everything that’s been building up because being eliminated early was a significant factor, but not the only one.
It became clear to the television personality that significant shifts happening in her life, such as leaving Vanderpump Rules, and other factors, were taking a toll on her emotional well-being.

Shay expressed that she was equally thrilled about this fresh phase in her life – spending the summer filming ‘The Valley’ and being around her friends – yet it didn’t quite compensate for not shooting Season 12.
From the show’s premiere in 2013, Shay has consistently been a mainstay on Vanderpump Rules, a popular series on Bravo.
Through more than a decade on screen, she gained recognition for her portrayal of intense romantic entanglements, moving personal narratives, and steadfast devotion to her close companions.
But after more than a decade on the show, her time came to an end.
It has been announced that Vanderpump Rules is set to return for its twelfth season with a fresh cast, excluding Shay and some of the original mainstays such as Ariana Madix, Tom Sandoval, and Katie Maloney from the lineup.
Though bittersweet, Shay has said she’s looking forward to her next chapter.
Initially, the announcement about the show’s revival… that signified a significant phase in my life coming to an end. Although I was relieved for this chapter to close, I couldn’t help but feel a sense of loss, as if a substantial part of who I am had been terminated along with it. These events ultimately plunged me into a state of depression.
In the end, Shay expressed her need to voice her concerns to assist those who may be silently battling difficulties.

She mentioned, “Everything seems fine, but my mind hasn’t been at its best.” She shared this because she felt it was important to convey that even when one has all the material wealth, they might not always feel entirely content. She aimed to emphasize that this is a common experience.
Shay is married to Brock Davies.
The couple tied the knot in August 2021 and held a wedding celebration in August 2022.
They share one daughter, Summer Moon Honey, who was born in April 2021.
