The Mars Volta drop new album, announce tour dates for fall 2025

The Mars Volta have unearthed a new apparatus: a headlining North American tour.

On a Friday, the progressive rock band from El Paso revealed their upcoming tour – which coincided with the release of their ninth album titled “Dirty Profit; The Eyes of Emptiness.

The tour begins on October 25th in Dallas, followed by a journey to the West Coast around late November. The troupe will visit the Pasadena Civic Auditorium on the 26th of November and the Riverside Municipal Auditorium on the 28th, with the final stop being at the SOMA concert hall in San Diego on the 29th of November to conclude the tour.

Following their stint as special guests on Deftones’ 2025 North American tour that concluded on April 9 in Newark, N.J., The Mars Volta are now embarking on a headlining tour straightaway. During the Deftones tour, Teri Gender Bender (of Le Butcherettes and Bosnian Rainbows) provided backing vocals for The Mars Volta’s performances.

The songwriters behind ‘The Widow’ are embarking on a tour to publicize their latest album, a grand 18-track electro-jazz opus titled as such. This is their third release since reassembling in 2022 following a nine-year break initiated by the departure of Cedric Bixler-Zavala, one of the band’s original members.

After a split with Scientology, The Mars Volta band has regrouped once more. However, for Cedric Bixler-Zalvala and his spouse, their struggles against the church continue unabated.

2009 marked the year I started a relationship with my current spouse, who immersed me in the fascinating realm of Scientology. My encounters with Scientology and its followers played a pivotal role in helping me break free from my costly cannabis addiction.

In a 2023 interview with The Times, Bixler-Zavala shared that initially, friends and family were hopeful about the solution I had found for myself. However, some expressed strong disapproval. He admitted, “I was trapped in my personal struggles and my own self-contained universe. I couldn’t perceive beyond those limitations.

Behind the scenes, Bixler-Zavala’s religious beliefs were a source of conflict when The Mars Volta disbanded in 2013. His deep involvement in this culture raised concerns among friends. For years following the band’s dissolution, Bixler-Zavala and fellow founding member Omar Rodríguez-López experienced an up-and-down friendship marked by periods of not speaking to each other, as well as collaborations on joint projects.

Speaking about the band’s split, Bixler-Zavala expressed his struggles but also shared that Omar gave him an opportunity for reconciliation and admitting past mistakes.

Rodriguez-Lopez remarked, “Discussing such a topic is challenging because it involves caring deeply for someone and being concerned about their wellbeing.

This was a result of their persistent harassment and threats aimed at us, an attempt to intimidate us following her allegations that Danny Masterson, a notable Scientologist, had subjected her to sexual and physical assault in the early 2000s.

In 2023, Bixler-Zavala stated that anger can cloud your judgment and prevent you from taking responsibility. One of the things that keeps her grounded is having Rodríguez-López in her life. His patience with her is a humbling lesson. Although she hasn’t always been patient with him, he has given her the opportunity to make amends and acknowledge her past mistakes.

Rodríguez-López stated that it’s important to embrace the choices you’ve made, regardless of whether they were correct or not.
