The Mandalorian star forecasts new Star Wars movie trilogy down the road
As a gamer who has spent countless hours immersed in the vast galaxies of Star Wars, I must admit that The Mandalorian initially captivated me with its fresh take and intriguing characters. However, much like Anakin Skywalker’s transformation into Darth Vader, the series seemed to lose its way after the exciting introductory act.
In 2019, when “The Mandalorian” debuted on Disney+, it felt like a thrilling fresh start for the “Star Wars” universe. The series introduced us to intriguing new characters we hadn’t encountered before, and each episode generally functioned independently. Moreover, Baby Yoda, also known as Grogu, skyrocketed in popularity as a pop culture sensation. Essentially, “Star Wars” made its grand return, stepping into a new chapter under the guidance of showrunner Jon Favreau and executive producer Dave Filoni!
In my view, the following seasons seemed to lose some of the initial charm for me because they introduced numerous characters from various other Star Wars productions such as Boba Fett, Luke Skywalker, Ahsoka Tano, Bo-Katan Kryze, and so on. The Mandalorian began to feel like it was merging into a wave of new Star Wars series including Ahsoka, The Acolyte, and The Book of Boba Fett. To be honest, I don’t believe the show fully lived up to the potential shown in its first season; it started feeling less unique as time went on.
Currently, Disney is aiming to revive interest with a film titled “The Mandalorian & Grogu”. This might lead one to wonder if there will be no fourth season. At this point, we don’t have a definitive answer, but it appears to be a possibility. As per Giancarlo Esposito, who portrayed the antagonist Moff Gideon throughout the first three seasons, this is part of Disney’s broader strategy.
In the style of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), Disney plans to bring together these characters in a fantastic movie or TV series, as stated by Esposito during a panel at Dragon Con last month, according to Culture Slate. My understanding is that this will be the direction it’s heading…Dave Filoni and Jon Favreau are working on a new vision, expanding upon The Mandalorian movie…My feeling is that all these elements will eventually merge into one point, leading us towards another series of trilogies or more movies.
As a devotee, it’s clear that Disney takes great delight in interwoven cinematic worlds, and Esposito’s insights seem spot-on. However, Disney has had its share of stumbles when it comes to launching new Star Wars projects. They’ve announced films from talented individuals such as Taika Waititi, Rian Johnson, Patty Jenkins, Kevin Feige, and the Game of Thrones showrunners David Benioff and Weiss, only to seemingly park these projects on the sidelines. So, they have some ground to reclaim in terms of trust.
It seems like “The Mandalorian” featuring Grogu is shaping up to become a reality, alongside a fresh film focusing on Rey (played by Daisy Ridley) post-“The Rise of Skywalker”. Additionally, there are numerous TV series in development, including the second season of “Ahsoka”, which has already crossed paths with “The Mandalorian”. It’s intriguing to ponder if Disney could compile all this content into a new movie trilogy. The question remains: will they be able to deliver on their plans, and would fans find it appealing if they do?
In the upcoming events of The Mandalorian, Giancarlo Esposito’s character Moff Gideon might not be involved due to his apparent demise in season 3. However, death doesn’t always mean the end in a series like Star Wars, and it seems that Esposito is hoping for this exception. In his own words, “I want to live! There was a clone. Make it true!
