The Mandalorian star confirms he won’t return for The Mandalorian and Grogu movie
As a long-time Star Wars fan, I must say I’m intrigued by the developments surrounding “The Mandalorian & Grogu” movie. While it’s a bit disappointing that Boba Fett might not be making an appearance, I can understand why. After the rollercoaster ride that was “The Book of Boba Fett,” it seems the character could use a break (or maybe a vacation on Tatooine, who knows?).
It appears that one question about who might appear in Disney’s upcoming “The Mandalorian & Grogu” spinoff film, “The Mandalorian,” has been clarified at last.
At the “From Clone Troopers to Bounty Hunters” panel during August’s Fan Expo Chicago, actor Temuera Morrison hinted that Boba Fett might not reappear in action for the upcoming film. The likely explanation appears to be that the unsuccessful television series had a significant negative impact on the character’s future development.
“Morrison admitted, in truth, that he’s yet to receive a call regarding the movie. He seems to believe that our project has been momentarily paused. Perhaps it will be taken up again at a later time.”
Boba Fett isn’t needed for The Mandalorian movie
I’ll openly acknowledge that it’s disappointing to see how The Book of Boba Fett may have negatively impacted the character of Boba Fett, as suggested by Temuera Morrison’s statements about his character being sidelined. Nevertheless, we can all concur that the upcoming Mandalorian movie doesn’t necessarily require Boba Fett.
As a fan, I’d be thrilled to see Boba Fett make an appearance in the movie, but his story arc in The Mandalorian has already reached its conclusion and it seems unnecessary for him to drive the plot forward in the upcoming film. We don’t have all the details yet, but we can expect the main focus to remain on the title characters and their compelling dynamic. It’s also likely that we’ll see some familiar faces from recent seasons of The Mandalorian, like Katee Sackhoff’s Bo-Katan, who played a significant role in season 3.
It could also be strategic for Lucasfilm to incorporate characters from their expansive universe that have gained greater audience favor, like Rosario Dawson’s Ahsoka. Given the positive reception of Ahsoka’s appearances in The Mandalorian and the success of her standalone series exceeding that of The Book of Boba Fett, it would be more logical to feature Ahsoka in the film rather than Boba Fett.
To be frank, our eagerness stems from wanting to know where this movie takes us story-wise, as it seems the creative team thought it wouldn’t fit with season 4. Some people fear it’s just a money-making scheme, but we can’t wait to watch Mando and Grogu on the big screen and discover how Lucasfilm brings them there!
